It's a sunny afternoon, the garden is full of life and everyone came to celebrate Henry's birthday today. Henry is currently sitting on a small wooden bench surrounded by his friends while Spencer shows them his favorite magic tricks. He lets cards slide through his fingers, pulls handkerchiefs out of the air and amazes the children - especially Henry, who sits there with his eyes wide open almost the entire time.
"What do you think, Henry? Ready for something you've never seen before?" Spencer stands in front of the boy and raises his hands, which start to intertwine in a fluid movement. “Yes, definitely!" Henry says enthusiastically.
Spencer quickly brings one of his hands down and pulls a glittering ring out of the air, which immediately appears in his other hand. "Look here, Henry, it's really easy,” Spencer says with a wink. “Wooooow!" the children shout in unison and Henry claps euphorically.
You, sitting next to Penelope on another bench, are also completely fascinated - but you're not just looking at the ring or the tricks. Your gaze keeps wandering to Spencer, to his hands to be precise, which performed the magic with such precision. It's not just the art of magic that captivated you, but also the man himself.
How skillfully his fingers move, how naturally he juggled the small objects - all of this makes your thoughts drift away. The fact that you’ve been in love with him for years now makes it even worse. You imagine how his hands would touch you, how he would hold you when...
You suddenly hear your name and flinch. You didn't even really hear him talking to you, as your thoughts were far away from the magic trick. "Are you even listening to me?" Spencer asks. "Why are you staring at my hands all the time?" You freeze. Suddenly you are so aware of the situation that you almost feel like everyone in the circle is watching you.
Your cheeks turn red. "Uh... I... I just wanted to know how the trick works," you stammer. Penelope, who is sitting right next to you, couldn't help but giggle and whispered to you: "Sure, that must have been the reason..."
"Yes! Exactly," you answer way too quickly. "I... wanted to find out how you did it!" Spencer looks at you for a while, then nods. “Sometimes, it's better if you don't understand the trick," he says with a mysterious smile. "Otherwise the real magic is lost." You try not to blush any more. "Of course, that's true," you murmur and try to relax. Penelope, who is watching the whole situation with a grin, giggles quietly.
Spencer turns back to his magic tricks, but his gaze keeps wandering over to you. You try to look away from his hands now, but unfortunately it's all to no avail. You find yourself looking at his hands and your thoughts wandering in another direction, and Penelope, noticing this, nudges you teasingly with her elbow. "Looks like our genius is enchanting you even more today than usual," she says.
To get out of the situation and keep a clear head, which is never possible around him, you stand up. "I'll get a drink," you mutter. "Good idea," Penelope says with a cheeky grin as you walk towards the house. The other children are busy watching the magic tricks again, but you can't shake the thought of Spencer.
His hands, which unleashed the magic so precisely and elegantly, preoccupied you much more than you would like to admit. You wonder what else he could do with those hands - if it wasn't just about magic tricks.
Spencer, who is busy with the children and their enthusiasm, casts a quick glance at Penelope, who looks at him with an amused smile. He goes over to her while the children continue to marvel and chat. Spencer casts a glance in the direction you went and then wonders if he missed something. “Tell me, Penelope,” Spencer begins, “do you also think she was acting a bit strange just now?”
Penelope laughs. "Oh, come on, Spencer. She was completely distracted." Spencer raises his eyebrow. "By my hands?" he asks, now slightly amused and curious. "Why?" Penelope looks at him and then grins widely. "Well, because she... watched pretty closely how you used them. She was completely fascinated," she explains.
“Fascinated?" Spencer repeats, now even more confused. "And what's so fascinating about that?" Penelope shakes her head and laughs softly. "Come on, you genius, do you really have no idea?" She clicks her tongue and looks at him with an expression that was almost too good-natured to be serious. "Um... no, not really," Spencer replies, looking at her confused. "Explain it to me."
Penelope raises her hands in an innocent gesture. "You're a genius, you should be smart enough to figure that out on your own." She winks at him and then stands up. "I'm going over to the others. Use your clever head properly," she says and then walks towards the house. Spencer ponders, the explanation has triggered something in him, but he still can't quite figure out what exactly Penelope meant.
Then he decides to tell Morgan - who is standing on the other side of the garden - about the previous conversation. He had no idea what had just happened, but something told him that he had to understand it. He walks quickly towards Morgan, who is just getting a beer from a cooler.
“Hey, Morgan," Spencer says, stepping next to him. "You didn't happen to notice what just happened, did you?" Morgan looks at him with a grin when he hears the question. He laughs quietly and takes a sip from the bottle. "Yeah, I noticed. She couldn't take her eyes off you the whole time.”
Spencer suddenly feels a little embarrassed. "What exactly do you mean by that? She was just a little distracted by the tricks. That's all." Morgan raises an eyebrow and then shakes his head, still grinning widely. "So you're really the only one who doesn't notice, huh?" Morgan asks. "Notice what?" Spencer replies. "Well, if you don't understand..." Morgan says, laughing again. "She's in love with you, pretty boy. That's what's going on."
Spencer is so surprised that he just sits there speechless for a moment. "You really think she's in love with me?" Morgan laughs again. "Um, yeah? Have you never noticed how she acts when you're around? How nervous she gets?" Spencer blinks as he thinks about it. He actually hasn't noticed that you sometimes act differently around him.
He thought about the tricks and the magic all the time, but never about the fact that you might be interested in him for another reason - something much more personal. He tried to push the thought away, but something inside him wouldn't let it go. He wanted this - you - for years and he doesn’t want to get his hopes up now. This has to be a misunderstanding, there is no way you are actually interested in him like that.
Deep down, he's wondering if he was really that blind. And what if Morgan was right? What if you actually feel more for him? He looks around again, glancing at you. Spencer puts the thought aside for now - but he knows he can't shake it off so easily. He feels like he can't ignore the whole situation any longer. After talking to Morgan, he realized a lot of things, but he really needed to talk to you to understand them. He has no idea how you would react.
You, on the other hand, try to avoid Spencer for the rest of the evening. You can't be near him without imagining what his hand would feel like around your neck or between your legs. But since Spencer is so popular with the kids and they can't get enough of him and his magic tricks, it's fortunately easier than you think to avoid him. But you still often feel his gaze on you and it makes you nervous.
Later that evening, after most of the guests have already left, you help JJ bring in a few glasses and bottles. You are just about to go back outside when Spencer comes towards you. "Hey," he says, but before you can even reply, Spencer pulls you aside and into the small guest room at the end of the hall. The door closes behind you and the atmosphere in the room is suddenly much more intimate.
“What's wrong?" you ask, still a little confused because he took you aside so suddenly. "You avoided me today," he says. You avoid his gaze so he doesn't see that you are blushing again and start babbling. "Henry and his friends were so impressed by you and your magic and it's his birthday, I didn't want to disturb you. JJ also needed help and I agreed to do that. We were both busy, so it's clear that we don't run into each other that often," you explain hastily.
“That's not true. You deliberately avoided me. And your mind was somewhere else. As if something was distracting you,” he says, taking a step closer to you. “Why don’t you want to tell me what distracted you today?” he asks, looking down at you. Your heart is beating faster and faster and you are a little overwhelmed by the whole situation.
You didn't expect Spencer to confront you with it. "Now you’re quiet. That's uncharacteristic of you. I think I'm making you nervous," he says. "I...uh," you start, but you're unable to form a sensible sentence. "I was just talking to Morgan and… now I know why you were looking at my hands like that." You look at him questioningly. "What?"
"You were looking at my hands," he says, "because you're in love with me." A laugh escapes you. Your reaction leaves Spencer startled, his voice suddenly uncertain. "Why are you laughing?" he asks, and for a moment he looks as if he's not sure what to make of it. "Is it because I'm wrong? I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable -"
But before he’s able to continue, you quickly grab his arm and pull him towards you. Your lips meet his, and for a moment everything else is forgotten. The kiss is gentle and at the same time full of emotions - as if you want to tell each other everything you never put into words. When you pull away from him, you look deep into his eyes and whisper “Morgan is right... I'm in love with you."
Spencer stares at you for a moment, as if to make sure he heard you correctly. But before he can say anything, you quickly add, "But that wasn't the only reason I was staring at your hands," you tell him. "No?" Spencer raises an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "What was the other reason?" he asks, and you can see in his eyes how eager he is to know. "I want to know."
You can see the sparkle in his eyes, the mixture of relief and curiosity, and for a moment you feel your heart beating a little bit faster. There's something you haven't told him yet, something you need to explain to him. But the look in his eyes melts your nervousness.
"I was looking at your hands," you begin, "because you use them in a way I've never seen before. Your movements are so precise, so... controlled. It's not just magic, Spencer. I want to know what else they can do." Spencer is silent for a moment, and then you see a slight smile appear on his face. “So, you're looking at my hands because you want to know what else they can do?" he asks. "Yes," you answer quietly, "but also because I just can't get enough of you."
“I don’t want you to get enough of me. Ever. Because I am in love with you too. For quite a while now. Since the day you sat down on the jet next to me and challenged me to play chess, to be more exact,” he says and leans forward to kiss you again, his hands grabbing your hips to pull you closer.
A gasp escapes your mouth and Spencer takes the opportunity to deepen the kiss and explore your mouth with his tongue. You can feel the heat rushing through your body and you press yourself even closer against him, reaching for his hand. His eyes follow every move with a curious look. You take his hand and slowly guide it to your neck.
His mind slows for a minute and then he finally understands. “That’s what you‘ve been fantasizing about earlier. My hands exploring your body. Me choking you. Haven‘t you?“ he asks and you nod. His eyes darken and you can see the lust sparkling in them.
His hand now wraps around your neck entirely and he squeezes gently. “More,” you whisper. “You tell me if it’s too much, okay?” Spencer says with a concerned look on his face before he tightens the grip on your neck. “Yes Spence, of course,” you breath out before getting distracted by his hand sliding up your inner thigh.
His hand is now under your skirt, running over your panties. “Can I touch you?” Spencer asks and you pull him down by his tie to whisper in his ear. “Of course you can, Spence. I need you to touch me. I’ve been dreaming about this since forever. I’m all yours.” You kiss slowly down his neck, then nibbling on his skin to mark him with a hickey.
That’s all Spencer needs to hear. His hand pulls your panties to the side and he grazes your clit with his finger to tease you. “Spence, please. Touch me,” you whimper and he chuckles. “Someone’s eager. Fantasizing about my hands got you worked up, am I right, sweetheart?” he asks, finally touching your clit with his thumb. Your only respond is a moan and you press down on his finger to show him you need more.
“I barely touched you and you’re already soaked,” he says as he runs his finger through your folds. “Only… only for you, Spence,” you manage to say and slide your hands up to his shirt to open the buttons, taken off guard when he pushes a finger inside you. Your knees are trembling and you have to hold yourself against his body in order to stay up.
“Spence, that’s so - it feels so good… I - I need more, please,” you whine and he pushes another finger inside you. He reaches all the spots you never could and you’re a moaning mess, rocking yourself against his hand. “Good girl,” he praises you and it takes you off guard. You clench around his fingers and he chuckles. “You like that, didn’t you? Me calling you a good girl. So praise kink and hand kink, let’s find out what else you’re into.”
You didn’t expect to hear such words from him. He is always the sweet, gentle and unassuming genius when you are around him, but now, that both of you snapped, finally giving in into your desires, he shows you a completely different side of him, one you’re more then excited to discover. It turns you on immensely.
He squeezes your throat more and pumps his fingers faster, rubbing your clit in circles with his thumb and it doesn’t take long for you to come on his hand. You hold yourself steady against him with trembling knees while he is busy running his hands down your shirt, tugging at your bra and squeezing your breasts. You help him taking off your shirt while he’s guiding you to the bed.
He unclasps you bra skilfully and pulls down your skirt and underwear in one motion, before he pushes you down onto the bed. His gazes wanders over your body and he licks his lips. “You are gorgeous, sweetheart,” he says before he leans forward to kiss down your neck to your breast. He takes one of your nipples in his mouth, grazing it with his teeth while squeezing the other one.
You arch your back and slide your hands up to his shirt again to go back to unbuttoning it, after you got interrupted earlier by Spencer giving you so much pleasure that you were unable to continue your actions. You pull his shirt off and run your fingers over his body.
Spencer slowly kisses down your tummy now, reaching your inner thighs where he sinks his theeth into the sensitive skin, sucking the spot to leave a hickey there before he gently kisses it and leans back to admire his work. It earns him another moan from you and he and grins. “So you like marking me, huh?” you decide to tease him back. “You are in no position to tease, darling,” he says with a mischievous grin before he presses his mouth against your cunt, licking a strip up your folds.
Your hands reach for his hair immediately, pressing him closer to you while he devours you like a man starved. Your whimpers are music to his ears and he can’t get enough of you. “You taste even better than I imagined,” he says before he dives back in. You lift your hips to press more against his mouth but he holds you down with his arm. “No, you have to stay still and take what I give you, do you understand?” he asks and you nod.
He shakes his head in disappointment. “Words, sweetheart,” he simply says and you need to concentrate to form a sentence. “I - oh… yes, I understand,” you manage to breath out and he goes back to eating you out, his grip firm on your hips to keep you still. You never felt this kind of pleasure and when you look down and see him devouring you completely, it becomes too much, you come again moaning his name.
Spencer comes up between your thighs with a satisfied smirk on his lips and you pull him down to kiss him again. You taste yourself on his lips and he pushes his tongue into your mouth. Your hand slides down to his pants and you open them with shaky hands, pulling them down. “Need you now, Spence. Please,” you tell him. “You need me that badly?” You nod. “Yes, I want to feel you inside of me.”
He takes off his boxers and your eyes widen, he is bigger than you expected. You watch as he pumps his cock a few times before he lines himself up at your entrance, sliding through your folds a few times to tease you. Then he pushes in and you moan his name. He claps his hand over your mouth to shut you up. “Shh, as much as I enjoy hearing you moan my name, you have to keep quiet,” he says.
From the lack of movement you are feeling right now you were sure he’s giving you time to adjust. When you feel ready you lift your hips to show him. He starts to slowly thrust in and out of you, hitting your G- spot with every thrust. “You feel so good, so warm and wet just for me,” he says and feels you clenching around him.
It feels even better than you imagined. He’s big, but it’s not uncomfortable and you want more. “Harder. You can - you can fuck me harder now,” you say and he chuckles when he hears how eager you are. He starts thrusts in and out of you faster, his hand wrapping around your throat again.
“Is this what you wanted? Is this what you imagined every time you looked at my hands?” he asks, squeezing until you see stars. “Yes, oh god - Spence. Feels so good,” you moan, already feeling another orgasm building up, gripping the arm around your neck for support.
Spencer, who can feel how close you are increases the speed and thrusts even faster and deeper inside of you. Your body is on fire and when Spencer starts to apply pressure to your already sensitive clit, you feel like you’re going to explode. “Come for me, sweetheart. Come around my cock,” he says and his permission is all you need to let go.
Spencer fucks you through your orgasm, also close to reaching his own now. “Fuck, I need to come inside of you. Can I, Sweetheart?” he asks, his thrusts getting sloppier. “Yes, in- Inside me,” you say and he finishes a few thrusts later. When he pulls out you can feel his cum dripping down your thighs, but you don’t mind. He collapses next to you on the bed and pulls you into his arms, placing a kiss on your head.
“Are you okay?” he asks you while he plays with your hair. “Yes, that’s was amazing,” you say and give him a peck on the lips before you cuddle closer to him, gently stroking his hair. He looks down to you. “Do you have to get the morning after pill? I can get it for you,” he says and you smile. “I’m on the pill, Spence, but thank you anyway,” you say and give him a kiss.
You stay in bed cuddling but after a while you speak up. “I would love to cuddle with you all evening, but I think we need to go back out soon, the others are probably already looking for us,” you say and he nods. “A few more minutes. I don’t want to let you go just yet,” he says and you smile. “I love you,” you say and he smiles back. “I love you too.”

⟢ One-shot Danny Phantom — Genre: Angst / Hurt — TW: Emotional Distress — Rating: T — AU? — First Person’s POV
———————
There he was—there it was.
My reflection stared back, the green glow of my eyes erratic, flickering like a faulty lightbulb. I wasn’t just looking at myself—I was looking through myself, and I hated what I saw. Not just the face staring back, but the endless spiral behind it—pulling me deeper into some unknowable abyss.
I couldn’t stop thinking about the battle. That one battle. Not with a ghost, not with some lurking threat—but with myself.
The dark part of… me.
The part that had escaped.
Again.
I’d won, of course—I had to believe that. I was the good side of myself, wasn’t I?
The hero.
But winning didn’t feel like triumph. It felt like a delay. Some whispers of the future lingering behind me, leaning over my shoulders, suffocating me with their burden.
I was afraid of becoming him.
That dangerous, older me. That monstrous version of myself that had been waiting all along.
All the—what ifs—it claws at the edges of my thoughts, unraveling my already frayed mind.
What if I couldn’t stop it? What if I was already becoming that monster? What if it was inevitable?
I stared deeper into the mirror, my fists tightening until my nails bit into my palms through my white gloves. I thought about my family, my friends—the people who had always been there. I’d already pushed them away, hadn’t I?
Maybe they aren’t even my friends anymore. Maybe I don’t deserve them.
Sam and Tucker had gone to college, following their dreams like normal people. Jazz was too busy carving her own path to stay. And me? I had stayed behind in the crumbling town I couldn’t abandon, giving up my dream of going to space. Protecting people was my purpose now. At least, that’s what I told myself. But deep down, I wasn’t so sure anymore.
Was it a noble choice—or a coward’s excuse?
You could still go. You could leave. You could be an astronaut. Fly into space. Fulfill the dream. Your dream.
But it wouldn’t be the same. Nothing ever would.
I gritted my teeth, my reflection rippling in the glass like a warped painting.
Happy thoughts, I told myself. But they didn’t come. They never did anymore. It was always easier to sink into the darker ones, to let them drag myself down into the undertow.
The mocking voices of ghosts, the weight of battles fought and won—none of it mattered in the face of the gnawing feeling in my chest.
My core.
It purred softly, a dissonant hum, both comforting and sinister.
It felt… so freaking wrong.
As if it didn’t belong to me anymore. As if Phantom—him was bleeding into me, hollowing me out from the inside.
My breath hitched. My fingers trembled as I gripped the edges of the sink. My eyes clenched shut, but it didn’t block out the image of myself—the warped, flickering, monstrous reflection staring back. I felt like a glass that was about to shatter, cracks spidering across my soul.
Stop it. Stop it. Stop it.
I punched my palms tighter until the pain jolted me back. But the ache in my chest was worse. Phantom wasn’t just part of me. Phantom was me.
My breath staggered in my throat—a sob trembling on the edge of release. My knuckles ached, my chest burned, and that pressure—that suffocating pressure—kept building on.
“Get out of my head!” I screamed, my voice raw, ripping through the suffocating silence.
The sound reverberated in the tiny room, crashing into the walls and returning to me like a ghostly echo. My reflection flickered again—glowing red of Phantom’s eyes overtaking my own for the briefest moment before fading back into green.
But it wasn’t enough.
“Leave me alone!” I shouted again, this time so forcefully that my throat hurt, as though I was tearing myself apart. The sound cracked into a wail—an uncontrollable, heart-shattering release.
Green tears left cold trails down my cheeks as I screamed again, and again, and again… until the room seemed to quake.
The mirror shattered.
Shards exploded outward, raining onto the counter, the floor, my arms. A jagged piece nicked my cheek, drawing a thin line of green that dripped down onto my trembling hand.
I didn’t care.
My reflection was gone—splintered into a thousand fractured pieces scattered at my feet.
My knees buckled, and I barely caught myself against the sink. My hands shivered, slipping on the porcelain.
I sank to the floor, my back pressed against the cold tile, knees pulled to my chest. My hands tangled in my snow-white hair as sobs wracked my body. Every shuddering breath felt like it might break me further.
The shards of glass caught the dim light, a kaleidoscope of chaos surrounding me, reflecting parts of me I couldn’t escape from.
I clutched my chest, my core still purring that discordant frequency—like a faint, mocking laugh echoing from deep within.
“I’m scared,” I whispered to—no one. My voice cracked. “I don’t want to become… him.”
My words dissolved into another sob as I curled tighter, the shattered mirror fragments glinting like stars against the dark void I felt, pulling me under.
“I will never turn into you.”
———————
Okay. First time I drew Dan. I was scared. Scared of those eyes. Those eyes that pierced the whole time into mine—no, through mine. I should’ve waited with his eyes until the end, but of course, I didn’t.

Naruto Boys genin discovering that reader is a girl?
Did this take me an insane amount of time to finally write? Yes. Have I been depressed and high? Also yes. Anyways!! Sorry I’ve been dead for 2 months, I’m back 😊 enjoy!
Genin Naruto Boys Discorving You’re a Girl
Includes: Naruto, Sasuke, Shikamaru, Neji, and Rock Lee
Warning: some shadowing of misogyny/bad writing
Context: You are from a different village and are attending the chunin exam, you never disclosed your gender cause it wasn’t a huge deal to you, but pre puberty you were mistaken for a boy.
Naruto:
- he only found out cause you got kicked out of your motel room cause you had an arguement with the person who runs it
- You had befriended him when you first arrived and became friends as you thought he was funny (and kinda lonely.. and he followed you around and you felt bad)
- You had asked to stay at his apartment for just a couple days cause you were also mad at your teammates and sensei
- He had started to change in front of you and you shrieked for him to go to the bathroom
- He was dumbfounded, as it was normal for him to change in front of his guy friends
- When you started spewing out how it was inappropriate to change in front of the opposite gender his face was like a big “HUH”
- “But you’re a guy???”
- “No I’m not!”
- “Yes you are!”
- “I think I would know Naruto”
- His face is flushed and all he can do is let out a small “oh..”
- it was awkward for a couple minutes as he goes to the bathroom to change and when he comes back out he sits across from you on the floor
- As Naruto was as a genin, he was a bit insensitive and so so curious, he asked you a billion questions
- He didn’t really care that much, he still considered you a good friend and honestly was kinda happy you were a girl
- Admires you a whole bunch, considering how strong you were and that you were a girl and a girl and.. wow a girl, you’re a girl?
- Might develope a small (huge, majorly huge) crush on you
Sasuke
- hated that he admired you, you had saved him during the Forest portion of the Chunin exam
- You guys became somewhat friends outside the exam, and by friends I mean he had showed up where you were and kind of just lingered around like a creep
- Soon the lingering turned into small chit chat and then sparing with each other
- He had only found out you were a girl when he over heard your teammates talking about you
- He kept this information to himself, a bit astonished as he had just assumed you were a guy
- “So.. are you a girl?” He had asked mid spare, catching you off guard for a second
- “Yup”
- “Cool”
- And that’s how it went on the outside
- On the inside.. sasuke didn’t know how to feel, he was use to the girls in the village drooling all over him and here you were just his… friend? No weird intentions attached?
- It never was brought up again and Sasuke tried not to treat you lesser as he knew you could handle yourself
- But he did every so often stare intently at you, trying to find the “girl features”.
Shikamaru
- This know it all.. did not know
- Your dad was friends with his dad and you were staying with them for the duration of the chunin exam
- You and shikamaru haven’t met prior to this, via him not knowing your gender
- Obviously you guys become friends, as it was natural since he sees you everyday plus you were pretty funny
- You guys were walking around the village and you had asked to stop so you could use the bathroom
- When you started to walk into the women’s, he was shocked and grabbed at your arm to draw you back
- “That’s the girls?”
- “Yeah….?”
- He kinda just looked at you, taking in your confused expression and he let go of your arm and nodded
- “Oh..Kay..”
- when you came back out, you guys started walking again but you had realized the silence was much more awkward than it usually is
- “So… I’m a girl,” you explained, hands shoved in your pockets as you stared ahead
- He nodded, a bit upset with himself for never clueing in that you weren’t a boy
- How didn’t he know? He talked and saw you ever single day since you first arrived, he should’ve been the first to clue in
- “You don’t act like a girl, no offence,”
- “Sorry… I guess?”
- You guys just go back to your daily chit chat
- He will most definitely stay up late at night obsessing over how he didn’t know
- And also most definitely be intrigued and grow a teeny tiny crush on you…?
- Never brings it up though
Neji
- He had actually befriended your teammate first, your team and his team formed an alliance during the forest exam
- The boy genins were all planning on going to the offsprings and when he asked your teammates to tell you they brushed it off and said you won’t be going
- He got upset cause he thought they always threw you aside most of the time
- He had came up to you after your training session with your sensei and started talking about the offspring’s
- “Why are you… inviting me?”
- “Cause.. all the boys are going?”
- “I’m not a boy”
- All too formal Neji had his jaw to the floor
- He now realized why your teammates looked at him weird when he asked if you’d be coming to the offspring’s with them
- “Oh..that’s unfortunate..” he replied, stunned and embarrassed
- You kinda just gave him a weird look “me being a girl is unfortunate?”
- Cue Neji feeling overwhelmed and stupid and he’s just sputtering out non sense and just leaves
- He avoids you for a couple days
- Comes up to you and formally apologies
- both of you start to hang out and develop a friendship and every so often you tease him about mistakenig you for a boy
Rock Lee
- You had asked him to train you as you wanted to advance in Taijutsu (pretend he only got fucked up a lil during his fight with Gaara)
- The month leading up to the finals, you guys actually got along nicely
- You considered him one of your really good friends
- After a training session, you both went out to get some ice cream and were sitting on a bench just talking about random things
- Rock Lee started talking about Sakura and his big crush on her and asked if you liked anyone
- You had said you kinda found this boy intriguing
- He, completely innocent was like “okay! I didn’t know you swung that way,”
- “Wait what?”
- “Well you like the same gender…? it’s totally okay,”
- “I’m a girl,”
- Rock Lee just gave a awkward big smile as he looked at you and blinked
- “Wow!” He finally says after a couple minutes
- He goes back to eating his ice cream
- Is pretty much the chilliest out of the whole genin, he’s honestly good vibes all around

Title: Remember When part 2
Azzi x Paige
Flashback
It’s been 6 years since Paige has known Azzi. The first time Paige had seen azzi was at a Christmas basketball tournament in Virginia. Azzi and her AAU team were playing in the 2nd game of the night. Paige was in town playing in her own AAU basketball tournament when Paige’s coach had suggested to the team on going to scout the other competition. Once in the gym the team had gotten separated and it was a free for all on seating. Paige and her teammate Destiny somehow found their way courtside and sat in the only two empty seats in the gym. Throwing back some popcorn and exchanging laughs with destiny it seemed to Paige this was going to be a fun experience.
The starting lineups were being announced and Paige was closely paying attention. The announcer on the PA system announced the 5’10” 8th grader wearing the number 35 jersey. When Azzi stood up to high five her teammates, eyes looking directly in front of her locked on to Paige. It was almost as if Azzi was giving Paige the 1000 yard stare. Paige immediately felt a warm sensation rush her chest and cheeks almost embarrassed. Thinking to herself, who is this girl… within the first 4 minutes of the game Azzi already had 3 steals, 8 points and 2 blocks. Paige can hear someone talking in her ear but she can’t make out the words. All Paige can seem to concentrate on is the girl wearing the number 35 jersey. “Earth to Paige” Destiny says, waving her hand in front of Paige’s face. Paige quickly snaps back to reality saying “huh”. Destiny says “number 35 is pretty good, she has handles like you” “yeah” Paige says but doesn’t really have any other words. All Paige knows is 2 things.
1. Paige needs to be on the same court as her
2. Paige needs to hear her voice
The game had ended with a score of 72-53 in favor of the curly haired brunette’s team. With the conclusion of the handshake line ending, Azzi had went to the bench to grab her gym bag and to scan the crowd for her parents. When Azzi had successfully spotted them she had turned to tell her teammates goodbye but only found a 6’0 blonde standing in front of her with a shy grin on her face.
Azzi: uhh
Paige being nervous couldn’t control the rapid fire of questions about to leave her mouth. All she wanted to know was what her voice sounded like.
Paige: not gonna lie you were pretty good out there..I’m Paige by the way, My team is playing here tomorrow. Are you playing again tomorrow?
Paige was about mid question when Azzi hears her dad yell for her.. Azzi turns back towards Paige and all she says is “I’m azzi, I gotta go..” she then proceeds to turn and walk away.
“Azzi” Paige’s says almost as a whisper to herself so she doesn’t forget her name.
Present
With the dynamics of Paige and Azzi’s friendship/relationship there have been multiple occasions where Azzi has often wondered if there would ever be a turning point for them to actually become serious.
There once was a brief moment back in USA basketball where Paige was the most vulnerable and expressed to Azzi that there was a possibility of liking her more than just a friend.
But that was very short lived because Paige never brought it up again and Azzi was still trying to figure out who she was and what she wanted.
The banter from this morning’s activities between Azzi and Paige were always the same. Pet names, forehead kisses, touches that seem to linger a second to long, random pictures of hearts on mirrors.
Azzi was in love with Paige, her best friend. The girl who she came to UConn for.
Paige was in love with Azzi , her best friend. The girl whose voice she fell in love with the moment she heard it.
But both were too scared to admit it
Azzi stood in the middle of her dorm room, staring blankly at her phone screen. The words “we need to talk” had been sent, and now she felt a suffocating weight settle over her chest. It wasn’t a message she ever thought she’d send Paige, not like this. But the yellow piece of paper she had just posted on the bulletin board—the one that had been snatched away in a matter of seconds—felt like a ticking time bomb.
She took a shaky breath, her pulse racing. In her heart, she knew the message would throw Paige off, but there was no turning back now. She couldn’t keep suppressing what she felt—not when it was slowly eating away at her every day. The words she’d wanted to say for so long threatened to burst out of her like a dam ready to break.
Meanwhile, Paige walked back to her seat across from Aubrey, trying to shake off the weird feeling Azzi’s text had given her. Aubrey raised an eyebrow, her mouth full of homestyle potatoes.
“What’s up?” she asked once she swallowed.
“Azzi just texted me,” Paige replied, still staring at her phone. “She said, ‘We need to talk.’”
Aubrey’s face lit up in mock surprise. “Ooh, the dreaded ‘we need to talk.’ What’d you do, Paige?”
“I didn’t do anything!” Paige snapped, though the nervousness in her voice betrayed her calm façade.
Aubrey smirked. “Relax. I’m just messing with you. It’s probably nothing.”
But Paige wasn’t so sure. Something about the way Azzi had rushed into the café earlier and posted that note—it had left her with an uneasy feeling. She’d never seen Azzi so… frantic.
“What if I screwed something up?” Paige muttered to herself, pushing her plate of pancakes away.
Aubrey gave her a side glance. “You? Screw something up with Azzi? Come on, Paige, the girl worships the ground you walk on. You’ve got nothing to worry about.”
Paige forced a smile, but the pit in her stomach remained.
Back at her dorm, Azzi paced the room, replaying the moment from earlier when she’d posted the note. She hadn’t expected it to be snatched up so quickly. That had to be a good sign, right? Someone was interested. Someone who wasn’t Paige.
Her chest tightened at the thought. Was this what moving on was supposed to feel like? A constant push and pull between longing and letting go?
She sank onto the edge of her bed, gripping her phone. The memories of Paige’s forehead kiss from earlier that morning felt like a cruel reminder of everything she couldn’t have. Paige made it seem so effortless—the playful touches, the inside jokes, the way she made Azzi feel seen. But that was just who Paige was: open, carefree, and full of love for everyone around her. It didn’t mean Paige loved her that way.
“I’ll never forget the day I realized I loved you, but most importantly, I’ll never forget the day I realized you didn’t love me back,” Azzi whispered to herself, the words ringing hollow in her ears.
She knew Paige cared for her deeply, but not in the way Azzi wanted. And that was the hardest part. Being close to Paige but never close enough.
The team gathered in the film room a little after 10 a.m. The hum of conversation filled the room as players settled into their usual spots. Paige and Aubrey sat near the back, while Azzi took her seat at the front, headphones around her neck and her focus on the laptop in front of her.
Paige noticed immediately. Azzi always sat near her during film study, but today she was keeping her distance. Paige frowned and leaned over to Aubrey.
“Something’s definitely up with her,” Paige whispered.
Aubrey shrugged. “Maybe she’s just in a mood. You know how she gets sometimes.”
But Paige wasn’t convinced. She glanced toward Azzi again, her stomach twisting.
The film session dragged on, but Paige barely paid attention. She couldn’t stop staring at the back of Azzi’s head, wondering what was going on. By the time Coach Geno wrapped things up and dismissed the team, Paige had made up her mind.
“Azzi!” Paige called out as the players filed out of the room.
Azzi paused but didn’t turn around. Instead, she waited for Paige to catch up, clutching her water bottle like it was a lifeline.
“Hey,” Paige said softly, her voice laced with concern. “What’s going on? You’ve been acting weird all morning.”
Azzi avoided her gaze, her heart pounding. She couldn’t do this here, not with the rest of the team lingering nearby.
“Can we talk later?” Azzi said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Paige frowned but nodded. “Okay. After practice?”
Azzi hesitated. “Yeah. After practice.”
The hours dragged on, and by the time practice ended, Azzi felt like she was going to implode. She hadn’t been able to focus at all. Every missed shot, every fumbled pass—it was as if her emotions were physically weighing her down.
Paige, on the other hand, was sharp as ever, hitting shot after shot and calling out plays with her usual confidence. Azzi watched her from the corner of her eye, wondering how Paige could be so oblivious to the storm brewing inside her.
When practice finally ended, Azzi lingered on the court, wiping sweat from her brow as the rest of the team filed out. Paige stayed behind, walking over to where Azzi stood.
“Alright,” Paige said, crossing her arms. “Talk to me.”
Azzi looked down at her shoes, her chest tightening. She had rehearsed this moment in her head a thousand times, but now that it was here, the words wouldn’t come.
“Azzi?” Paige prompted, her voice softer now.
Azzi took a deep breath and finally met Paige’s gaze. “I… I posted something on the bulletin board this morning. It was an ad.”
Paige tilted her head, confused. “An ad for what?”
Azzi hesitated. “For a date.”
Paige’s eyes widened. “A date?”
Azzi nodded, her throat dry. “Yeah. I figured it was time to… you know, put myself out there. Meet new people.”
Paige stared at her, a mix of emotions flickering across her face—surprise, confusion, and something else Azzi couldn’t quite place.
“That’s what you wanted to talk about?” Paige asked, her voice quieter now.
Azzi nodded, her chest aching. “I just thought you should know.”
Paige opened her mouth to respond, but no words came out. For the first time, she didn’t know what to say.
Azzi took her silence as a sign to leave. “I should go. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Before Paige could stop her, Azzi turned and walked away, leaving Paige standing alone in the middle of the empty gym, her heart pounding in a way she couldn’t explain.

and the nights were as dark as my baby, half as beautiful too. tags : hurt/comfort, fluff, fem!reader wc : 1k synopsis : Togame's not a great texter, but for you, he will always make an exception.
Togame's major trigger in a relationship is when you refuse. to. openly. communicate.
He doesn't blame you, though. He would never! He's aware that sharing your feelings freely can be simply a lot, and maybe even scary sometimes.
But the moment he sees you sitting on your shared couch, the TV playing your favourite show yet your gaze so far away as you stare into nothingness-
Images of his childhood friend suffering in silence cross his mind. Memories of past mistakes and his incompetence at helping the person closest to him, and letting both of them drown in loneliness and bitterness.
No. He won't let that happen again. He won't let you get consumed by your own thoughts and doubts, won't you brush every worry of his away with a forced smile and false reassuring words because you fear that he might run away from you at the slightest inconvenience.
It just has been a rougher week than usual, too many things gone wrong, too little right. You still tried to move on because no matter how awful a situation may be, they never last forever. Or so you have though. Because somehow you feel them still ingrained so deeply in your head, and they make you rethink and relive every single mistake that you've done the past few days in a way that makes you wonder whether there is something that you can actually do right for once.
You don't notice Togame disappear from the doorway and slip into the bedroom, too busy with slipping further into a downward spiral.
That is until the sudden and short vibrating sound of your phone pulls you back into reality. With a strained huff, you lean forward to grab it from the coffee table, and as soon as the sender's name on the display appears, you freeze in place.
Togame did not tell you that he'd gone somewhere, neither have you heard him leave the house, so why is he- Oh.
'Wanna tell me what's happening inside that pretty little head of yours?'
You stare at his text for a few seconds, rereading each word as if you were trying to learn his sentence by heart. The phone in your grip shakes the slightest as you feel your fingers twitch nervously, unsure about whether to answer or ignore him, meanwhile Togame sees the little dots beside your name appear and disappear over and over again.
Why would he let you burden him with your silly problems? Some of them minor, others nothing but a mere creation of your imagination and overthinking tendencies. He cares. He cares. He cares, is what you keep repeating to yourself once you decide to type out two simple words.
- 'A lot.'
Togame's glad that you can't see him right now. The way he jolts instantly, quickly sitting up once his phone pings with an incoming message from you. It feels as if he had travelled a few months back into the past. A time when every single text of yours, every touch, every smile that you shot his way, made his heart beat erratically and plaster a stupid lopsided grin on his face.
The excitement and giddiness of your love has slowly become something quiet and soft. A constant that makes him feel comforted and safe. The kind of love that he knows you need, especially in times like these.
'I see.. Wanna talk about it? It's okay if you don't'
Warmth spreads through your chest as you take slow deliberate breaths, each one shakier than the other. Never one to pressure or rush you, always a gentle voice, and a calm aura. That is your Jo.
And so you let your thoughts run freely as your fingers tap over your screen. With enough time to contemplate over your words, express your feelings properly while clumsily trying to explain some of them that you yourself truly don't quite understand, you feel your eyes sting.
He knew that this is what you needed.
Togame anxiously stares at the last text he has just sent three minutes ago, left on read. His own chest feels so much lighter knowing that your own hopefully feels just the same. Yet as he stares at his unanswered message, he wonders if he might have crossed a line. He starts feeling like a cowardly idiot for making you sit out there in the living room, all alone with all these overwhelming emotions while he's lazily lying in your shared bed.
Soon, the sudden noise of quick steps padding against the floor appears until the door bursts open. His body is quicker than his mind to register what is happening when you throw yourself on him, making him let out a breathless oomph. The bed and mattress creak and jump, but Togame immediately has a steady hold on you as his arms instinctively wrap around your waist.
"Hey-" His forehead creases in worry when he feels you shake, soft sniffles and sobs muffled by his chest.
But when you lift your head and smile at him, such a sweet, beautiful and real smile, he knows that you'll be fine despite the tears that keep flowing over your puffy cheeks. He gently wipes them away, not minding that they're immediately replaced by new ones.
The lightest shiver makes you jolt against him when his hand slips under your shirt and slowly caresses the skin along your back, his thumb softly moving back and forth. His chest rumbles with a deep chuckle when you groan annoyedly before almost aggressively wiping with your sleeves at your face to get rid of the overflowing emotions that somehow never cease to escalate when Togame's in your proximity.
At the same time, the world always becomes a quiet place when you're like this. In his arms, in safety and comfort, with nothing left but both your beating hearts and the feelings that you harbour inside them for each other.
"Thank you, Jo. I love you." You whisper as if it was a secret, and watch how Togame's eyes soften as if you'd said it for the first time again.
With a hand on the back of your head, fingers tangling into the soft strands of hair, he pulls you so close that you can feel his lips move against yours as he speaks.
"Love you more, doll."

𓍯 — Girl Of My Dreams 𖡎
ᥫ᭡ f!reader x sim jaeyun ── 𝒢enre. angst. fluff, non idol enha. ᭙ᥴ 5.4k Not proofread [reqs are open] ᝰ.ᐟ 𝓁ibrary
authors 𝓃𝑜𝓉𝑒𝓈 so recently I watched this film called dr birds advice for sad poets and I fell in love with it, the somber romance and dependency of one person to another to keep them mentally stable just stuck with me. Though this isn’t as somber to the movie the limerent romance is similar.
IN WHICH Jake finds himself deeply in love with a girl that has a somber heart but a love for poetry. She uses words to mask the pain that hides behind her angelic smile, and the closer the two get the more dependent she becomes on him.
🏷️ : @jwonistic @squiishymeow @river-demon-slayer @sol3chu @butterflywonz
In all honesty Jake knew absolutely nothing about poetry, he had never even found himself interested in a single poem until he had laid eyes on her. Though he was a man of books and literature, never in his life had he picked up a book of poetry. Even so he found himself attending every meeting of the dead poets society, all out of hopes that he could finally get closer to her.
Despite his friend group Jake had always been a socially awkward person, being around others that weren’t his childhood friends made him absolutely anxious. When he became overwhelmed it was like Bees swarming a comb of honey, his thoughts sent into an immediate frenzy. To outsiders because he was quiet and just had always remained in the books it made him weird. He hated the unwanted attention that surrounded him, the negative and positive attention that seemed to surround him like a heavy fog, there was only person's attention he truly wanted and didn’t mind having and that was hers. Everything about her was vibrant and the complete personification of what sunlight was to be in human form. First time their eyes met he felt he had experienced what it was like to come face to face with the stars, to stare into the heart of space itself. She summoned an endless swarm of butterflies in the pit of his stomach every time the two crossed paths. So imagine his feelings when she approached him and his friends during their study session; a study session during which only two of them seemed to be studying.
Jake had been so entirely invested in his book that he hadn’t even realized she approached their table. It wasn’t until his nose had sensed the sweet smell of her perfume that he realized she had been nearby. Sunghoon slaps at Heeseungs shoulder as if to bring his attention to the scene before them. All of his friends were well aware of the massive crush they’re friend had on her.
“Jake?” His heart had begun to beat so fast that he felt he was experiencing heart palpitations, as he heard his name spill from her plump lips, a sound that was absolutely angelic falling upon his ears. The way his name melted off her tongue sending his burning stomach into a frenzied state.
“You’re Jake right?” As he finally tore his gaze away from his book and forced them to focus on her face, he froze up on the spot.
“You are so breathtakingly beautiful.” The words spilled from his lips before he himself could even grasp the fact that they had.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“..Okay, anywho..Jake.” She says it again, the butterflies in his stomach rampage upon her calling his name again. He'd have sworn he had honey dripping from his ears by now, having heard his name from her once again.
“You work in the bookstore downtown right?”
“Right, yeah every week.”
“Perfect, um so the poetry club has been looking for a new place to meet after hours since the campus library is usually closed, and since I’ve seen you around there I was wondering, do you think we could use the bookstore?” Her every word has slipped through one ear and out the other, all he could do was stare into her doe eyes and wonder what thoughts were running through the forest in her head.
“Uh y-yeah I guess I could ask the owner?”
“Yes, yes yes! Thank you.” With the smile that spread across her face she was like the true embodiment of an angel. Before he had any sort of time to react she had kissed his cheek and ran off.
In that moment he had experienced over a thousand flames igniting within him, his heart entirely set ablaze.
The next morning he sat in class contemplating the ways he could ‘accidentally’ run into her outside of her classroom once her lecture had been over. He stood pacing the floor, his thoughts nearly swallowing him whole like a sea of irregular waves. He did that often when it came to her, constantly overthinking, always questioning whether or not she’d ever truly be interested in him. If he would ever actually man up and tell her he had adorned her for quite some time.
“Jake?” Her voice instantly pulled him from his head, forcing him to focus on something other than his thoughts of her and remain in the present. As his eyes fell upon her she dismissed her friends and made her way over to him.
“Hey, I was looking for you this morning, usually you’re in the courtyard with your friends but you weren’t there this morning.” She noticed that? She noticed him enough to realize that he wasn’t in his usual place.
“Ah right I got here a little late, my shift last night ran kinda late. I did get the okay to have you guys use the store though, as long as everyone is out by 12 the place is all yours.”
“Oh my god! You’re literally the best!” Jake found himself lost in her smile, lost in her dimples as she cheerfully pulled a note from her bag.
“This is the poetry club's schedule. I made this extra one so that you would be aware of the days we’ll be attending, since you’ll already be there. Maybe you should listen to it every now and then?” She hands over the invitation with a smile, his gaze remained glued to her as she brushed the loose strands of hair away from her face.
“Ah yeah, Maybe I should. I've been wanting to get into poetry lately.” A blatant lie, he had never ever thought to get into it.
“Oh? Then tonight will be perfect for you. We're discovering the works of Edgar Allen, starting off with simple works since we’ve gotten new members.” The only time he had ever picked up any work by the former writer he had been in middle school, it was the only time he had ever read poetry in his life and it had been forced upon him.
“Save a book for me then yeah?”
“I’ll get there early tonight, maybe you can help me set up before everyone gets there?” He couldn’t possibly deny her request, with the way her beautiful eyes gazed at him expectantly, he was forced to crumble under pressure.
“Yeah, I’ll be there.” Of course he’d be there he had to fucking work. He swore when it came to her all his logic was immediately thrown out the window.
When Jake had finally arrived to work his thoughts were rampant once more, with no way to silence them. He was nervous to say the least, he had never experienced love, nor had he ever experienced what it was like to love someone this much, let alone someone like her. She was like a rare flower that only bloomed upon the night of a full moon. Her energy was always infectious to anyone that had crossed paths with her. She had a way of making even the saddest of man smile.
The ding of the front bell drew Jake out of his ongoing thoughts, and as she walked wearing her white button up and black skirt, a red sweater adorned around her waist. His eyes drink her in, as if snapping a picture with his pupils and engraving the sight within his mind for eternity. Everything about her was sweet, her plump lips, the dimples that poked out when she smiled, the freckles that adorned her face, and don’t even get him started with her laugh or her voice, that melted off her tongue like sweet honeysuckle.
“Hi Jake.”
“Hey, you actually really did come earlier than expected.”
“I’m a girl of my word.” She responds with a smile as she sits down on a box of books on the only empty table in the store.
“So there's a room in the back, where we keep the old books, but there’s enough space for all of you to gather there, and it's somewhat secluded if you all don’t want to be bothered.”
“Thank you I honestly owe you one, I really do appreciate us letting you use the place.” She responds with a smile, taking the sweater from around her neck and placing it on the table.
“I’ll take these back there for you, feel free to look around.” He lifts the box with ease, not seeming to realize the way she observes him curiously. She had always seen him around campus, or in their shared lectures, his head always buried in a book when he wasn’t studying or hanging around his friends. She always thought him to be cute, though she wasn’t the type to simply crush on someone all because they were cute, she liked to take the deeper dives. To fall for anyone she needed to fall deep into the abyssal vortex of their minds.
She trails him, strolling through the aisles, eyes scanning through the ongoing shelves of books, her fingers dusting over each outdated and upgraded cover, or spine.
“Do you like it here? I mean you must love books a lot to work here of all the options in town.”
“Yeah it’s not bad, I mean the pay could be better but I’d rather be surrounded by something I love than getting higher pay for a shitty job that leaves me miserable.” He responds by taking one of the books into his hands as he sits down the box full of them. He had seen poe's work countless of times, his poetry above all being one of the recent purchases from the store, though he himself had never been intrigued enough to even spare it a glance until now.
“Do you have a favorite work?”
“Favorite work?”
“A favorite piece of his? Poe? Or any poet for that matter if you prefer others.”
“Ah, I’ve actually never even bothered to pick up any poetry, don’t think I’ve read any since I was in middle school.”
“Seriously?”
“I guess I just never got the point, to me they were always just mindless words put together on a page.”
“Then that means you just haven’t written the right works.” She disappears from sight leaving Jake confused as he hears rustling down one of the aisles until she returns with a book.
“This one is one of my favorites.” She steps at his side pulling the book open to one of the first pages inside.
“She walks in beauty, Lord Byron.” As she began to read he found himself captivated, near hypnotised by the sound of her voice. Partially distracted how close the two of them now were, close enough for him to detect the aroma of her perfume almost immediately. As her arm brushed against his own it sent shivers up his back.
“She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent”
Once she finished reading her gaze shifted from the book in hand, over to him who had already been looking at her.
“Beautiful.” He wasn’t talking about the poem, he meant how captivating she could look standing there. How angelic her voice had sounded as she read through the lines of the page. Of course the poem itself was beautiful, it resembled the exact way he thought of her, but having her standing here she looked all the more beautiful.
“It may sound beautiful, yes, but the words where you hear them, what do you think? What did they mean to you?”
“Sounds to me like he’s praising a woman for her beauty, the unfathomable realization that one could be so beautiful, that they could look so sweet and angelic, she must be praised for her visuals and attributes among all.”
He responds, tearing his gaze away from her and looking at the book, part of that had been solely his thoughts towards her.
“Well, the piece is meant to praise the inner and outer attributes of a woman, to admire her beauty, innocence and purity. The admiration of a woman and all that she may be, adorning her inner and outer beauty.”
“It’s beautiful.” He responds looking back at her, her eyes had nearly met him until the bell at the front door rung and slowly but surely members of the club began to trickle in.
Though work pulled him away from the ongoing meeting it didn’t stop him from stopping in every now and then nor did it stop his ears from listening in. He never thought he’d ever find himself interested in poetry but the way she talked about it, how passionate she got when it came to each poem, it drew him in.
By the end of the night when everyone had left and the meeting had come to an end, she was the last to stay behind.
“So what did you think?” She sauntered over to the checkout counter, resting her elbows on top and her heart in her palms.
“I guess it’s not as boring as I thought.” He responds, trying to act cool at which she only laughs at his attempt at being nonchalant.
“There's no meeting tomorrow, but do you work?”
“I open tomorrow, yes, though Someone else will be closing.”
“Perfect, I’ll swing by and pick you up after your shift, I’ll make sure that by the end of this week you’ll absolutely love it by the end of this week.”
“Yeah? If you can get me to like it, I'll take you and the whole club out for ice cream, my treat.”
“I hope your wallet is ready by the end of the week then.” She grabs her things, throwing her sweater over her shoulder before making her way to the door.
“See you tomorrow.”
“You promised her what??” Heeseung and Sunghoon were sent into a fit of laughter as Jake went over the events of tonight.
“Oh you’re so whipped it's insane.”
“Im pretty sure I’m fucked, even if I don’t like anything she shows me tomorrow I know I’ll just give in and tell her I like it anyways.”
“How many people are in this club anyways?”
“Including her twenty.”
“So basically he’ll be buying two hundred dollars worth of ice cream.”
“Isn’t that like your whole paycheck? You only make 350 a week.”
“Well at least he’s finally got a date with the girl of his dreams.”
The next morning Jake found himself watching the clock, waiting for the time to trickle down, his eyes often shifting to the door as if he had been waiting for her to walk right through it. Eventually he forced himself to keep himself busy, dusting shelves and rearranging books out of hopes that it would make the time go by faster, though it just continued to go agonizingly slow. As the front bell dinged he quickly rushed to the front, his heart nearly falling from his chest as she entered. With her green topped button up and brown skirt, this was the first time he hadn’t seen her in some sort of formal attire, honestly it was the first time he had ever been seeing her outside of a scholastic setting. She looked beautiful as always, but something about the revelation of skin made goosebumps adorb his skin.
“Hi Jake.” She approaches him with a bright smile, that same bright smile that made his heart meet every time he laid eyes upon it.
“You look, you look beautiful.” He spoke absentmindedly, earning a smile from her.
“Not that you don’t look beautiful all the time- just today you..today I actually. You know what I think they need help over there I’ll be right back.” Jake silently curses himself as he slips from behind the counter and escapes the aisle to help an elderly couple that had just entered the store.
Meanwhile she sauntered down the aisle, her eyes trailing the shelves until landed upon something that was worthy of a rest in her eyes.
“Stealing beauty.” A book she herself had read time and time again simply to feel something, a reminder to her that love existed, that even the most foreign loves could be real.
“Have you read it?” Jake asks, stepping behind her he takes one of the five copies of the book into his hand.
“Mm I have, more times than i’d like to admit.”
“There's something about italian romance that is above all other types, summer italy. Maybe it’s the fact that Italy itself is more beautiful that makes the romance so breathtaking.” He continues on as he puts the book back in his place, this was the first time that she was getting a good look at him now that they had been this close. As he spoke she found his words tugging at her heartstrings, she was getting a glimpse into his own mind.
“Do you like them? Romance books?”
“I’ve read them since I was younger, I’ve always had a knack for them, I’ll read any genre but there’s something about romance that makes you feel hopeful about your own love life, helps discover the things you yourself might like to experience with another person.” The more he talked the more his thick accent melted her ears, there was something infectious about the way he spoke, it was quite obvious that he was a man of books.
“Jake! You can clock out now. I'm sorry for being late.” A tall male who she assumed to be his coworker yells from the front counter, neither of them knew when he got there but he had now made his presence known.
“Soobin you do realize you don’t have to yell, I wasn’t even that far back in the store.” Jake walks away and she lets out an unknown sigh of relief.
For the first time since knowing about him, she found herself becoming more and more interested in Sim Jaeyun.
“So you mean to tell me you’ve really read books all your life and never picked up one poetry book?” She asks, as the two walked down the street side by side
“I’ve never found any interest in it. Why read something so short and inconclusive when I could fall into the world of a book, stimulating my imaginative side.”
“Poems may also be short but they tell a story as well, it may not be as long and drawn out as the chapters of a book, but if you find the right one you’ll fall in love with them.”
The two of them found themselves walking down the street market, her immediately stopping as her eyes fell upon the jewelry cart and he immediately took notice at what her eyes fell upon.
“Do you want one?”
“What?”
“The ring, did you want one?”
“As beautiful as they are, I can't have you buy this Jake.”
“I’ll take two of them.” He tells the seller, completely ignoring her disapproval of him spending money on her.
“Thank you.” Jake gives the seller a charming smile below continuing their walk.
“Here.” He stops only a few feet away to slip the ring on her finger before slipping one on his own.
“What is the significance of these anyways, what’s special about them?” She had been so busy staring down at her hand that she nearly ignored his question.
“They’re mood rings.”
“Like as in the rings that change with your mood right?” She gives him an absent nod and he looks down at her ring before looking at his own
“Mine is dark green? What’s the meaning of it?”
“Means you’re feeling mixed emotions right now, in that case the ring can’t pinpoint any exact emotion so it turns a darker green.”
“And yours?” He responds glancing down at her ring, he nervously bit his lip, as he awaited her answer.
“Indigo.”
“What does indigo mean”
“Means I'm happy, that i'm at peace.” Jake's chest heaved a relieved sigh upon hearing those words, she was happy, and he didn’t care if it was because he had gotten her that ring or if it was because she was with him not all that mattered was she was happy.
The evening had gone by far too quick for him, she spent the entire day making him read different poems, showing him different arts and music pieces. They talked over dinner, both of them sharing their interests and talking about some of their favorite works and films that had cause their spark for the things they were so passionate about, and when they finally bid goodbye to one another Jake went home with a smile on his face while she herself went home with a feeling of dread. Before meeting Jake Poetry had been her only escape, of course she had her friends but they had their own lives of course, they couldn’t always be there when they had lives to live as well. Today with Jake had been so perfect, it wasn’t until she got home that she realized she didn’t want to leave him.
As she stepped into her home, the overwhelming sense of dread and immense sadness had overbared her. Broken glass crunched beneath her feet and the sound of yelling in a nearby room caused her to clamp her ears shut as she ran up the stairs to her room. You’d think she’d be used to it now, the constant screaming and yelling, the violently laced exchange of words between her and her father. She had been dealing with it since high school, so she couldn’t understand why now in her twenties she still couldn’t handle the way they talked to one another. She had no one, her little brother was never home and it's not like she wanted him to see her like this anyways, after all the oldest daughter was meant to bear all of it on her own. So she plugged her ears with her earbuds, hoping to drown out any sound of the ongoing fuss as she cried herself to sleep.
The prettiest of smiles hide the saddest of hearts
The next day she decided to lock herself in her room, it was a sunday. She should have been out and about, enjoying her day off before returning back to school, yet there she lay wasting away in her room, starving herself. After couldn’t leave her room, she didn’t want to face either of them, she wished that they would just make it easy on everyone in the house and divorce but part of her also knew that that would hurt her too.
Jake on the other hand could only think about her and the previous night, he regrets not getting her number, because now he sat behind the bookstore counter wondering if she had as good a time as he did.
The next day when everyone had returned to campus Jake was quite surprised to see you joining him and his friends for lunch.
“Hi Jake. These are your friends right?” She flashes each of them a smile as she introduces herself to them. In all honesty every one of them had been quite shocked at the fact that she had been sitting at their table, it left them to wonder what exactly happened between her and Jake the day before that the two were now close.
“I wanted to ask you something.”
“I’m all ears.”
“There's a film convention coming up at the end of the month and I usually get tickets early, I was wondering if you wanted to go? They're showing straling beauty and since you like the book too I think we could go together?”
Jake had frozen on the spot, she was asking him to a movie?
“Yeah- yeah I’d love that it sounds fun, i'll be there.”
For some reason she found herself letting out a relieved breath she didn’t even know she had been holding in. It would have been absolutely humiliating if he had rejected her in front of his friends.
The week had gone by pretty quick, a week in which she hadn’t had much time to think about her family because she had been drowning herself in school work, poetry club and none other than Sim Jaeyun. He became her rock, someone she found herself depending on whenever she felt overwhelming sadness or dread. Whether it was the two of them reading together, watching movies, or simply sharing interests it always tore her mind away from the dreadful things in life.
The two had become quite close, so close that it was obvious to any outsiders that the two had formed some sort of feelings for one another. If it wasn’t obvious enough, the handholding, whispering to one another, or her giggling wherever he smiled or looked at her would absolutely give it away.
As she struggles to place a book onto the top shelf Jake steps behind her, taking the opportunity to snake an arm around her waist and take the book from her hands, placing it up on the shelf himself.
“You know you could have just used the stool.”
“Then how would I have gotten you to come over and help me?” Her words earn a chuckle from Jake, so brushes her hair behind her ear as she turns to face him.
“I think I deserve some sort of reward for helping you put it up anyways.”
“Is that right?”
“Mm.” He hums, leaning in and pressing her against the shelf as he presses his lips against her own.
“Please don’t fuck in here I don’t think the owner will be too happy with seeing that on the cameras” Soobin chimes in from down the aisle, causing the both of them to jump.
“Ah what did I tell you about yelling bin.” Jake complains, rubbing his head after having hit on the bookshelf, which only makes her laugh.
The two walked hand and hand to the ice cream parlor that was a mere two blocks away from the bookstore, boom now owing the entire club ice cream because he had indeed, fallen in love with not only poetry, but with her.
The month had gone by smoothly, and the closer the two had gotten, the more in love they fell with one another the worse things had gotten in her family. She had been on her way out when she heard the two of them screaming her lungs out in the kitchen, her mom throwing things as per usual. It was like she couldn’t get out of the house quick enough. Jake had been making his way to the door when she stepped out, she forced a smile on her face as she saw him approaching her with flowers in his hand.
“Hi beautiful.”
“Hello handsome.” He hands her the flowers before tucking her hair behind her ear.
“Are your parents working late again? I was hoping to meet them tonight but if they’re busy again then I guess I’ll just have to catch them another time.”
“They’re gone to my brother's game.” She lied, she hated lying to him but she refused to let him see how fucked up her family had been right now, she didn’t want him looking at her differently. The entire car ride she had been silent, seemingly lost in thought, that was when Jake realized that something had been off. He took her hand into his own, rubbing over her knuckles with his thumb before bringing it to his lips for a kiss, it was then that he realized the color of her mood ring was one he had never witnessed on her finger before, Gray.
“Sweetheart you know you can tell me if something’s bothering you?”
“Hm? What do you mean?”
“Your ring, whatevers stressing you out, whatever’s got you nervous, anxious you me you can tell me?” That was it, she shut down on the spot. It wasn't a lie she could lie to him; he had already known something was up by her silence and the color of her ring, but she couldn't bring herself to say a word.
How could she sit right here in the passenger seat of his car and tell him that she had been lying about her parents. How could she tell him that she’s always avoided the topic when he talked about making things official because she was scared. She was scared that this wasn’t really a romance, that she was only dependent on him to feel something other than sadness. That she was scared that she really did love him; they would end up just like her parents. Before she had even realized tears had been streaming down her face and it sent Jake into an instant panic.
He immediately pulls up into the driveway of their destination and stops the car.
“Sweetheart, did I say something wrong? I’m sorry love i didn’t mean to-“
“I’m sorry.”
“Sorry? Sorry for what sweetheart, why are you apologizing?”
“For using you, for depending on you to make my shitty life not so shitty.”
“What are you talking about sweetheart you aren’t making any sense.”
“I’ve been lying to you Jake.” Her tearful eyes staring at him made him suck in a breath.
“My parents, the reason I never want you to come over or meet them is because they’re always fighting, they’re always down each other's throats, and it’s the reason my brother never even bothers to come home. I tried, I tried to be happy, you made me happy, but I- I’ve been relying on you like some sort of drug. I’ve been pretending all this time to be happy and cheerful, I’ve smiled when all I want to do is break down.”
“Why? Why didn’t you just tell me? Why didn’t you just talk to me?”
“I just- I didn’t want you to look at me differently, to not like me anymore because I wasn’t the happy cheerful girl you met on campus.” He wiped the tears from her cheeks, though endless tears concubines to fall he still wiped them nonetheless, holding her head in his hands he forced her to look at him.
“Why would I give up on you for something that’s out of your control? I’ve liked you for longer than I could remember, sat alone sometimes constantly overthinking if you would like me with all my own flaws and anxieties. How could I ever stop loving you or look at you differently for showing aspects that make you human. Your parents actions or words don’t define the person that you are, so what they do I don’t care.”
“Jake.”
“I don’t care, I love you, I fell in love with you and I’m going to love you through sad and happy moments, do you think I’m always happy? That I don’t sometimes feel the stress or dread of life just crushing me, it's part of who we are, part of who all of us are, and you aren’t using me. I’ve looked into your eyes many times, and it's not guilt or deceit that I’ve seen. You love me.”
“Jake I”
“Saying it won’t make me disappear, telling me you love me won’t drive me away, you love me.” There was an overbearing silence agate his words. As scared as she had been the entire time to admit it to not him but herself, he was right.
“I love you.” Her voice cracks as she finally speaks the words aloud. Three words that made Jake's heart beat faster in his chest and he was finally able to feel some sort of relief hearing her say it.
“Don’t think about anything going on at home tonight, just be in the present.” He spoke softly, a loving undertone to his voice as he cleaned her tear stained cheeks.
“Let’s make sure that by the end is the night, your ring turns back to indigo.”

TLDR:
-People have a hard time connecting with Kant because his main motivation, Babe, is not around much.
-Kant and Bison are both guilty of lying to one another. Interested to see how they navigate their relationship now that they are both on to each other.
I've had this thought in my head since last week, but never got around to writing it down. I think part of the reason people, not me because if Kant had one fan it would be me, have such a hard time getting behind Kant's reasoning and motivation, is because we aren't that familiar with the object of said reasoning. Babe is Kant's motivation. He's the only family he's got as far as we know, and he's Babe's guardian. It's not only a question of if Kant doesn't do what Capt. Crunch does he will be sent to jail, it's if Kant doesn't do what Capri Sun does he will be sent to jail, and Babe will most likely go into the system because there's no one else. That's simply just not an option. Kant wasn't stealing cars because he liked the thrill of it, he did so because he needed to take care of his brother, and he was desperate. We joke that Kant is a terrible criminal, but I think that's the point? From the pieces that we can grasp, he was/is a criminal out of necessity after his parent's sudden death, and not just for the thrill of it. He wouldn't be in his current situation if he was great at it.
When you write it out like that, I think it makes one more empathetic to his plight but the problem is we don't really know Babe. I wrote in a previous post that Fadel and Kant are the same in different fonts. Both are protective of their brothers and will do anything to protect them, but the stark difference is we know Bison. He's a fleshed-out person and we feel bad for him. We don't know Babe. We know that he likes Shakespeare, he gets bullied, and he's Kan't brother. That's it. We go episodes without seeing him, and his absence leads one to forget that he's the main reason Kant is doing any of this at all. He just looks like a sleaze trying to stay out of jail.
With each episode, it is becoming clear that Kant is failing horribly with not becoming attached to Bison. He lies and has a healthy amount of fear of Bison, but his gestures are honest. He can't help it, he's been into Bison since before he knew what he was. He's not just sweet on Bison because he has a role to play, he's sweet on Bison period. With them living and working in such close proximity anyway, they were bound to be a thing.
But.
That's not what happened, and he can't even fully explore his feelings because this cop is threatening him and has put him in an impossible and dangerous situation with no resources or protection, Bison is a killer, and he's stressed out by both. There's definitely nuance and reasoning there with Bison, but baby boy is still incredibly lethal. Kant's head has got to be stronger than his heart and his other head, and as much as he likes Bison, he loves his brother abundantly more, and that's reasonable. He also does not know Bison. I wrote something last year while watching Only Friends about Sand and Ray's relationship that I think can be applied here. Kant and Bison are not getting the same insight into one another, for clear reasons. They're open with each other, but they are not completely honest with each other for, again, reasons.
Kant is lying to Bison, but Bison is also lying to Kant. Kant knows Bison is lying to him, but being a sweet-faced assassin is a pretty big omission. Bison is under the impression that he's killing bad people, but Kant isn't privy to that and only knows that under that pretty face with dreams and an artistic spirit with a love of cats lies a killer. Someone who could kill him and his brother and not think twice about it. Obviously not, but Kant does not know that. Someone who just as easily lies to him about a big part of his life, and with a lot more ease. Bison doesn't want to be an assassin anymore and wants to live his life, but as far we know he does not lose sleep over any of his kills, and that's still scary. Again, nuance there, I got a whole thought process on other mother raising children to be disposable assassins, but this post ain't that!
It's been touched on many times that Bison knows there's something up with Kant. He is a perceptive little thing, so there's no way he doesn't know Kant is not being truthful. Fadel has pointed out and Bison does not listen. Bison knows. Deep in his bones he's always known, but I think he didn't want to believe it because he's fallen for Kant. That may not have been the initial goal, he just wanted freedom and Kant's hot, great motivators, but dammit if he didn't fall for the guy. I have a similar theory about Kant. Let me explain, don't touch the mic, let me explain. Kant knows Bison's other occupation. Capt told him what was up and he hasn't been completely comfortable around Bison because he knows this information, but I don't think it really clicked for him until he went into Bison and Fadel's secret room. Not because he didn't believe it, but because he didn't want it to be true. I think he wanted Capt. to be wrong about this because he's fallen for Bison too, and not only that, he's falling deeper despite all that. Which is a terrifying revelation. And Bison protected his brother twice now? Kant might be better at keeping himself than the other three, and he might be lying to himself out of self preservation, but he's just as gone. Now that both know about the other, I'm so ready for them to finally be truthful and truly lay themselves bare without deceit between them.
...This got away from me, but whatever.
One last thing! I think this scene above is after all truths and betrayal are out in the open because that looks like a taxi, probably stolen, Kant looks like he might be wearing some sort of uniform that hides his tattoos, and Bison is wearing a hat to hide his identity. Okay, I'm done.

i kind of want to talk about my view on The Chosen One after ava 11... this is very ramblely and i don't think i finish some of my thoughts so bear with me here
honestly, my opinion on Chosen hasn't changed much. (probably cause I always liked victim and figured he must've had a pretty good reason to be attacking him like that. and he sure did.) the thing is... Chosen was never completely innocent. there is absolutely no way you can frame it so that he was, but it is also important to see it from his perspective. Now, The Dark Lord very well could have been the one to kill Mitsi. But either way, Chosen watched it happen, did nothing, and even allowed TDL to high-five him afterwards. Even if he was hesitant. It was merely a speck of guilt in a sea of death. His guilt wasn't strong enough to act on. At the same time, this makes a lot of sense.
All he had known was fighting and suffering. He was created because Alan wanted a challenge. He instantly starts to fight Alan. Then gets enslaved by him for years. So when he gets free, it makes sense he still is aggressive... and he's with Dark. That's the only role model he has. Victim got better because he had people who were kind to both him AND others. When he loses them, that's when he falls apart again. Chosen had DARK. Dark was aggressive to him at first, but then friendly, but still aggressive towards everyone else. It's the ONLY friendliness he's ever been shown. Of course he goes along with him. He sees Dark as a good person at first even if he feels that it is wrong, he's never been given the chance to learn that it's NOT wrong, so he ignores that feeling of guilt, because it's his friend that he trusts. He only started to realize it was truly wrong GRADUALLY, after the high of becoming free wore off, after the days of him being used by Alan were left behind. He slowly began to see the weight of how bad it was that Dark was literally murdering others. Dark however never felt bad; it was just how he was made to be. So he still continued to go along with it even when he became clearly concerned. In fact, it's not until Dark is about to wipe out EVERYTHING that Chosen attacks him. It's not until it's on that large of a scale that he acts. And it took him YEARS to come to that decision. And in fact- Dark was WEAKER than Chosen without his bands, so Chosen could very well have stopped him at any point. But he didn't. Not until Dark had already made those bands to increase his power. Not until it was so far gone that he was about to wipe out everything. So... Chosen isn't innocent, no. But he absolutely cared about Dark. And that's why he went along with it all. Dark was all he'd ever had. It's only once he's gone that he can consider doing anything else.

When the Phone Rings, ep 10
This show keeps on delivering and is making up for what has been an absolutely dismal year for kdramas.
I wonder how the assistant got mixed up with OG Sa Eon and how they never met up until the end. It's good to know that the assistant was not completely evil and was able to help Sa Eon, now the he knew he was not the one to who killed his brother. Interesting to note, that in some ways, Sa Eon considered Do Jae a friend. He tells him that he does not trust, yet the only one he trusted as Do Jae. When Do Jae saves him from being stabbed, he lets OG Sa Eon go and focuses on saving Do Jae. I weirdly hope that they can become friends (well not that much), though Do Jae does need some prison time.
OG Sa Eon underestimates Hee Joo because she was not going to just let him drive away with her leaving Sa Eon behind. No, she fights for her life and yanks his hair hard so that he crashes the car and can escape. I love the hug when she runs to him and then later her putting the blanket on him, patting his back to comfort him.
I simply cannot get over OG Sa Eon's mom. Look, I don't have kids so I cannot speak to the mother/child bond that most mothers have. However, I fell like a line would be drawn if my child killed small animals then progressed to killing multiple children when he was still a child himself.
What do you mean how could you still treat him this way? He became a serial killer as a child and I am pretty certain he would have killed you at some point without a second thought. OG Sa Eon's father is terrible but at least he recognizes that his son is a monster and will cut him off or work to capture him. BECAUSE HE IS A LITERAL MONSTER. Of all the terrible parents on this show, and there are four of them, I think she is the worst.
I love, love how In A and Hee Joo are working together to put all the pieces together. It's In A who realizes that the car accident was likely intentional, all because their younger brother saw the OG Sa Eon.
I cheered for Hee Joo finally speaking back to her mom. For finally realizing that her mom never loved her and her obeying her mom was not love. She will not be gaslit anymore. I have a feeling it won't be long before Hee Joo completely cuts her out of her life. And I love how In A stayed, partially to comfort Hee Joo but also to immediately let her know who she thinks sent the DNA results when memory was triggered by what Hee Joo's mom said.
Sa Eon was the one who sent the DNA report, which is a twist I did not see coming. For Hee Joo, it's one of the final missing pieces. He really did orchestrate their whole marriage. Because he loved her and wanted her to have her freedom, never believing she would love him back. The fact that Hee Joo asks him to marry her, while crouching before him in the dress he bought her is swoon worthy. But he says he will propose to her instead. They both want to start over properly. The kiss was amazing.
We get another piece of the puzzle - what the deal was with the Chairman. The Chairman was behind the car accident and Hee Joo's stepfather found out. However, the Chairman promises to kill his grandson to balance killing the stepfather's son. The Chairman would replace someone as Sa Eon, but the stepfather knew and would bound to secrecy with an additional guarantee of getting anything he wanted from the family as long as he kept his quiet. At the very least, it looks like he really needed Sa Eon to be dead and all deals were void if he was not, as we see him crash the memorial with a shot gun.
By the way, proof again the OG Sa Eon's mom is terrible since she knows he is there and does nothing.
Hee Joo the fighter and survivor that she is, makes good on her promise to protect Sa Eon. She tells Sa Eon that she loves him, floors it and drives straight off a cliff into the water below. How OG Sa Eon thought that letting Hee Joo drive was good idea is beyond me. Did he forget how she escaped the first time? She crashed the car. Did he forget that she nearly tore his hair out causing him to crash a short time ago? Hee Joo has repeatedly shown that she will crash a car if necessary to survive or protect. He never should have let her drive.
The press conference scene was hands down the best scene. Disheveled Sa Eon, revealing that his is not the Chairman's son. No, the one true thing is that he is a husband who loves his wife and she is missing. He reveals to everyone who Hee Joo is, nearly breaking down completely in the process.
The lack of promo sucks, though I get why there is not one.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The warmth inside the cave had successfully dried most of your jacket, the warm sun would do the rest as you rode a little behind Gawain and Lancelot. Percival was seated in front of Lancelot and had not said much since leaving the cave and neither had Lancelot. It was Gawain who kept the conversation going by trying to inform the three of you how things were among the Fey these days. Lancelot sometimes replied to him and it showed that he knew more of Fey customs than anyone had expected. There had to be things he remembered of his past and things he had learned after having hunted the Fey for so long, it was not unusual for one to become quite knowledgeable on the subject of that which they spend most of their time on. You had not said much in the past hours, the afternoon sun was warming your back as you just listened to Gawain talk about Nimue.
“She would not want you to weep for her.” Gawain said to Percival.
Percival snapped his eyes away, clearly not happy to hear that. “The paladins made her fall and drown! Why can I not weep?!”
Gawain tried to explain that it was only meant to comfort him, “Percival, I did not mean that-”
“I hate them! I hate them all!” The boy snapped.
Lancelot tensed up behind him but tried to mask the reaction by readjusting how he was seated. Then Percival threatened to dismount, but he prevented it. “Percival.”
Percival hated that others would see the tears that threatened to blur his vision again, hearing about Nimue and how she had died was too much for him.
Lancelot held the boy seated securely in front of him, lowering his voice to calm him, “No one here will mock you for weeping. Mourn your friend without reservation.”
Gawain gave a reassuring nod towards Percival when the boy looked at him again. “My words were meant to offer comfort, they were not meant to upset you.”
“Fine.” Percival sighed, shaking the outburst from his shoulders.
Relief washed through all, Gawain chose a different topic to speak about. This time he spoke of the time where Lancelot had tried to burn him alive in a mill, and when you looked at the Ash Man for an explanation he kept his eyes straight ahead.
“He never told me that.” you bitterly said.
Gawain looked at you. “He does not appear to be a man of many words.”
There was still no eye-contact from the culprit. “And certainly not when it could bring him trouble.”
Lancelot scoffed, finally breaking the silence, “I had my orders. They wanted you, Green Knight, because you had killed many of the paladins. The Church was pressuring Father into capturing those with the strongest influence among the Fey.”
Gawain smiled, finding it amusing. “I suppose I could take it as a compliment.”
“I did capture you.” Lancelot still sounded proud of that achievement.
Gawain tried to temper that pride. “Yes. After a lot of effort.”
Percival found it the perfect timing to speak up on the fight he had witnessed between them, telling Gawain, “He fights faster than you.”
Lancelot turned his head the other side, hiding the victorious smile from the knight upon hearing the child sound so impressed.
Gawain send Percival a look, “Who’s side are you on, boy?”
That cheeky child grinned at the knight, knowing exactly how to get on his nerves.
Gawain shook his head, not giving either of them anymore attention. “We should stop at Crowgrove and acquire supplies, unless we wish to starve on our way to Gramaire.”
“Very well.” Lancelot agreed on that plan, he looked back at you, “Do you still have the pouch I gave you?”
A bad feeling sank itself into your stomach, quickly you searched your satchel. The pouch was no longer in there. “I don’t… I’m sorry. My father must have taken it.”
“It is not your fault.” he quickly said, then looked at Gawain. “We could trade?”
“Trade what?” Gawain asked.
“I still have my daggers.” Lancelot suggested.
Gawain pointed out a problem, “If we offer a merchant there one of those daggers, it will get us unwanted attention. They have the symbol of the Church on them, do they not?”
Lancelot nodded disappointed. “Then what can we trade?”
“We’ll see what we can do once we are there.” The knight sighed, not having an answer to that problem yet.
A loud scream coming from the left of you startled all, Lancelot by reflex held up a hand to signal the rest of you to stop. More screams traveled through the forest fast, you could hear people run.
Gawain spotted the origin of the sound. “Paladins. They are chasing two Fey women into the woods.”
The knight began to ride towards the sound, Lancelot called out to him, “Green Knight, we shouldn’t. If they see us alive-”
“You should not, but I do. I will not ignore their call for help.” Gawain was firm on that and gave the Ash Man a disappointed look. “My people need me. Ride ahead, I will find you.” The knight left no room for debate and rode towards the danger.
Lancelot sighed, swallowing down the curse he wished to emit. “Percival, dismount and ride with her until I return.”
“But-” Percival did not want to miss out on the action.
“Now.” he told him.
He helped the boy slide down from Goliath, and whilst you helped Percival up on your horse Lancelot put his bow into his lap then spurred Goliath on into a gallop. What you didn’t understand was why he wasn’t riding in the same direction Gawain had gone in.
“Do we have to just wait here?” Percival sounded appalled.
You didn’t plan to wait and see if they came back alive or not, even though they had clearly thought you would. But there was a child with you. “It’s dangerous…”
Percival looked back at you, reading the truth right out of your eyes.
“Fine. But we don’t get too close and we stay hidden, understood?” you knew that it was a risk with the boy’s unpredictable character.
When Percival promised not to take risks, you rode in the direction that the sound came from. By the time you were almost close, you could hear a fight going on. You halted the horse, dismounted and hid with Percival among the bushes and trees. Gawain was at a distance, fighting a group of paladins while two young Fey women and him were cornered by a rock formation. It was not a fair fight, five against one, Gawain was defending more than he could attack.
“Percival, I need to help him. Swear to me that you will stay hidden!” you held him by the shoulder. When he did not answer right away, you gave him a little shake. “Percival?”
The boy nodded. “I’ll stay out of sight.”
“Good lad.” you cupped his cheek for a moment, then quickly moved through the bushes towards the Green Knight.
Gawain noticed you approaching and looked both relieved by the incoming help, and annoyed that you had chosen to engage in battle.
You drew your sword and stepped into the sight of the paladins, one turned to look your way. Another was charging at the knight, that paladin’s plan was ruined when an arrow landed into the side of his neck and the force of it send him to the ground. Gawain looked around for a second, then continued to fight the other paladins who were clearly confused by the fatal arrow. You warded off the attack of the paladin who had noticed you by holding your sword vertically and swung your sword at him next, he evaded your sword but an arrow pierced itself into his chest and you stumbled back away from him. That had been too close for comfort, you looked where the arrow must have traveled from and spotted Lancelot up on the rock formation as he took aim again at the remaining paladins. He would not have a drop of blood on him whilst killing his former red brothers up from that advantage point. With the low supplies in mind, you grabbed hold of the arrow lodged into the paladin’s chest and pulled it free. Another had taken advantage of your brief moment of distraction to try and grab you from behind.
“I remember you!” he loudly exclaimed. “The Weeping Monk’s whore!”
You turned the arrow in your hand and with a quick backwards motion you stabbed the arrowhead into his cheek and pulled it free right away, blood splattered onto your shoulder and neck. It was nauseating but you did not falter, by turning into his hold you broke free and stabbed him with the arrowhead in the neck. Blood gushed out of his neck and you backed away to avoid getting it on yourself but you still felt the blood splatters land on your face. When you looked up, Gawain was delivering the death blow to the last paladin. The knight then noticed you and the state of your appearance, and what he saw must have startled him.
He called out to you, “Are you alright?”
It took you a few seconds to answer, “Yes.”
He turned to the frightened Fey women to talk to them and you approached them. They had been on their way home with their family when they encountered the paladins, they got seperated from the rest of them when they had run.
“They are not far.” Lancelot came from between the trees, having overheard the conversation. Percival was at his side.
The women cowered away in terror at the sight of him and it took Gawain some effort to assure them that Lancelot was no threat to them. You noticed the hurt in Lancelot’s eyes at witnessing their reaction to his presence.
Still, the Ash Man tried to help. “I can lead you to them.”
The women had their arms hooked together, seeking support and comfort with each other. They looked at you and Percival, and how you both had no fear of the one they so feared.
You saw it as a quiet request for your opinion. “We can help you. Lancelot can bring you to your family.”
“He’ll kill them.” The auburn haired woman said.
At that, Lancelot send his gaze to the grass, he had wanted to walk away but Percival took hold of his sleeve and wouldn’t let him. Someone needed to be his voice, for he would not be it for himself now you realized. You turned to the women.
“He saved my life, he saved Percival’s life. He just helped the Green Knight save you. Trust him to help you when he says he will, I promise it is worth it.” you spoke with fervor, then walked away to collect the arrows that had been used.
The women looked between the two men and the boy who had not expected you to speak so strongly for the former Weeping Monk. You heard a few sentences being spoken between them all, then Lancelot came to you just as you took out the arrow lodged into a paladin’s stomach.
“I am going to retrieve the horses, I will be back in a moment.” he informed. “We’ll lead them to their family and resume our journey afterwards.”
You were glad to hear it. “They are just frightened, they don’t know you like we do.”
He fidgeted with the bow, stealing the bloodied arrows from your hand. “I saw you fight. You are getting better.”
You picked up on that nervous note in his voice. “Truly?”
“Yes.” he liked to see that smile on your face. “We shall stop by a river so you can wash the blood off.”
Almost had you forgotten about the blood that had splattered onto your face. “That would be lovely. Oh, and uhm… that was impressive archery you displayed.”
“Thank you.” His eyes darted over your face, then he shook his head as if he wished to erase his thoughts and walked off.
The reaction was so odd that it left you a bit dumbfounded, Gawain began to walk towards you with Percival and the Faun Folk women and gave you a curious look. You shrugged your shoulders a little, acting like it was nothing important. Mere minutes later, Lancelot returned riding Goliath, the reins of the other horses in his hand. Gawain let the two women mount Gringolet and decided to walk beside them whilst Lancelot led the way. You rode beside Lancelot with Percival seated in front of you, watching how easily the Ash Man could find the rest of the Faun family. You wondered if your sense of smell would ever be that strong. He halted before he’d get too close and risk scaring away the Fey up ahead.
“They are over there.” he pointed to a spot further away with a lot of birch trees that had grown closely together.
Gawain helped the women dismount and walked the distance with them towards the spot that Lancelot had pointed out. Lancelot kept a watchful eye and saw the women reunite with their family, they all spoke to the knight for a little while. In the meantime Percival switched horses to ride with Lancelot again.
When Gawain returned, he walked past Goliath to mount his horse. “They asked me to thank you for helping them.”
Lancelot only nodded, still thinking about how they had reacted just by the sight of him and what they had said.
Gawain was grateful for the help. “And I am glad to see that you came to aid me, I did not know for certain if you would.”
“I swore to Percival that I would help the Fey where I could.” he said.
Gawain saw it differently. “I think you decided to help not because of a promise, but because you knew it was the right choice to do so.”
They shared a look amongst each other, and you knew the knight had made the right assumption.
Gawain leaned forward a little to look past Lancelot at you. “We’ll travel along the river to Crowgrove, so your dear friend can get that blood off of her. We do not want to alarm the villagers.”
“That bad, huh?” you winced.
Lancelot looked at you, a smirk formed on his lips when he decided how to answer. “It could be worse.”
Gawain rolled his eyes and straightened his back. “You would tell her she looks beautiful even if she would be drenched in mud from her head to her feet.”
The smirk vanished from Lancelot’s face and he looked ahead instead. Percival frowned for a second, then looked at the Ash Man from the corner of his eyes with suspicion. You knew what the knight was insinuating but ignored it just as you had done so when the paladins would share their opinions on the connection between you and Lancelot. Until last night he had not crossed that line, and he had only done so because he was consumed by grief. Gawain began to ride again, leading you back on the road to Crowgrove.
About an hour had past before reaching the river. The plan was to stop for a moment, then continue along the river to reach Crowgrove. The chance to wash the blood off was not one you would pass up on. After tying the reins of the grey mare to a tree, you went to the riverbank and knelt down to splash water up in your face. Gawain and Percival took seat on the grass to enjoy the sun. Lancelot strolled over to you, watching the river’s stream as he stood a few steps away. Because of the warm sun, the temperature of the water was just right and a contented hum sounded from deep within your chest.
He had forgotten all he had come to say, the moment he saw that water drip along your neck his thoughts were diluted by invasive ones he could not stop. The warm river water mixed with your scent was pleasing his senses greatly.
You were in the midst of trying to wash the blood out of your sleeve when noticing that he was trying not to stare. The jest fell, “Here to make sure I clean myself well?”
Immediately he forced his eyes to the river. “Did Lord Leoric do so?” he blurted out.
It made you go quiet for a few seconds. Now you were the one staring at him.
“I am concerned.” he admitted. “You were locked in that room, told to bathe against your will… were there other matters forced on you?”
You shook your head. “Not the sort that you think may have happened. Lord Leoric saw me as an oddity for him to study, he wanted me to be perfect like a statue for display.”
He was relieved to hear it. “Forgive me for pressing the matter. When I was with the Red Paladins, I bore witness to the atrocities they tried to commit when they thought I was not there to see it.”
You looked up at him in shock.
He swallowed hard, jaw tense as he spoke. “Not all kept to the vow. I caught three of them, all on separate occasions, attempting to force themselves on women.”
He was not comfortable to speak of it, the memory visibly unsettled him to recall. You were very quiet while listening.
He looked behind him to make certain Percival was nowhere close enough to hear. “I did warn them that I would be unforgiving if I learned of such behavior. And I was.”
“You killed them?” you asked.
He gave a sharp nod. “A benefit of making them fear me was that no one dared to cross me. And even if they had told Father, I would have been forgiven.”
“Because you were his greatest weapon.” you concluded.
He hummed in agreement. When a silence fell, you could just sense that there was something he was holding back on saying.
It felt like it was a personal matter he had not spoken off. “Lancelot… not many would have reacted the way you did. The way you defended those women…”
He knew what you were trying to gently inquire about. “When I was around Percival’s age, I was made directly aware of how some abused their authority and strength.”
Your heart sank. “Did they…”
“One tried. I sensed his intent when he lured me into the woods where he then voiced it to me.” he quietly said. “My sword was quicker. I did not give him the chance to get closer to me. He was one of the first that met their end at my blade.”
Slowly you rose from the grass and got closer to him, not really knowing what to say to the memory he just entrusted you with.
He continued, very careful that no one else could hear. “I grew to know that I had to keep them in their place, and when I was put in command I let my opinion on it be known.”
You placed a hand on his arm softly. “Thank you for telling me, it can’t have been easy to do. Now I understand why you are so concerned that something of the sort happened to me.”
He placed a hand over the one you had on his arm. “Can we keep this between us?”
“I won’t tell another soul.” you vowed.
His thumb brushed along yours. “It was many years ago, but I will never forget the fear that went through me. I was fortunate to have my sword with me that day.” A sigh. “This is why I feared I had done an unforgivable thing last night.”
You put his worries to rest, “It was never your intent to hurt me and you haven’t. I’ve always known that you have morals, and I have no doubt that you would never do or allow such a thing.”
He was so relieved to hear you speak of your faith in his character. “Thank you, for saying that.”
You withdrew your hand slowly. “And if I have ever made you uncomfortable, by embracing you for example, I apologize. I will be considerate of -”
He was quick to assure that it had not been the case, catching your hand before it could fully leave him. “I trust you. Do not let what I just spoke of stop you from showing your warmth towards me.” He feared it would make you hold back on showing such familiarity again. “I have gone without it until I met you, now I fear I would mourn it’s absence greatly.”
It was such a sweet thing to hear, so surprisingly lovely that you were a bit stunned, a shy smile danced on your lips. “It’s uhm… I am very glad to hear you say that.”
He let go of your hand, suddenly becoming aware of how he had been absentmindedly playing with your fingers a little. Deeply he inhaled, exhaling an unsteady breath. “I should go and speak to Gawain, hear what plan he has for once we reach Crowgrove.”
Before he walked away, he picked up your jacket from the ground to hand it over and you gave him your sweetest smile while plucking it from his hands. Three full seconds passed before he walked to where Gawain and Percival where seated. You put your jacket back on and walked a bit further along the river with a plan in mind. By practicing on using your heightened sense of smell, you picked up on the sweet scent of flowers. There was just one problem, it came from across the river and you would have to walk over a fallen tree that laid across it. Carefully you climbed up on the thick tree trunk and tried to find the right way to balance your feet on it.
“What are you doing?” Lancelot stopped a few feet away, looking very, very confused. Gawain and Percival stopped beside him, looking rather curious to see what you would do or maybe even waiting to see you fall in the river and ruin your attire.
“Nothing, just let me do this. I’ll come back to this side in a moment.” you waved him away.
He brow arched daringly, you sensed what he would do and quickly moved over the tree before he could try to stop you, he was not fast enough to grab your arm.
“Dammit-” the curse fell out of him and he grimaced at his inability to prevent it, especially around Percival. “Get back here!”
You shouted back whilst slowly walking over the trunk. “Gods! I’m not going to drown in this river, Lancelot! Just wait there, it’s alright.”
“I like her.” Gawain had his arms crossed in front of his chest, highly entertained by the shenanigans.
A frown formed on the Ash Man’s forehead as he looked at the knight, but Percival moved and before the boy could take another step towards that tree trunk he had caught him by the back of his jacket. “Stay.”
With small effort, you reached the other side of the river and turned around with a victorious expression. Gawain looked proud, Percival looked envious and Lancelot was looking at you in a scolding manner. You turned in the direction of that sweet scent and found it’s origin in the form of purple flowers growing onto a rock on the ground. You plucked some, just enough for your purpose, then headed back to the tree trunk to cross the river again.
As expected Lancelot scolded you once reaching the other side of it. “We should not wander off. Must I remind you that the Church is looking for us?”
You ended his lecture by putting one of the flowers into his hand. “I am aware. Now have this.”
He blinked twice, then looked down at the flower in his hand. You did not wait for him to start scolding you again and went over to Percival to give him a flower too.
You hoped it would bring them some happiness in their grief. “A sweet smelling flower for a sweet boy.”
A pink hue came over Percival’s cheeks as he accepted the flower and brought it to his nose.
Lastly, you gave one to Gawain. “For helping us.”
The knight gave a polite bow of the head and took the flower from your hand. “I do not believe I have ever received a flower before. What a sweet lady you are.”
You grinned. “I am honored to be the first.”
Gawain went to his horse and put the flower in the saddlebag for safe-keeping. Percival was still smelling the flower, then stuffed it in the pocket of his jacket. By the time you looked at Lancelot, the flower you had given him was nowhere to be seen. Had he tossed it away for ignoring his scolding? Or did the flower smell bad to his more attuned heightened sense of smell? You walked up to him, reaching him just as he stopped by Goliath.
He was inspecting the saddle. “Gawain believes we will reach Crowgrove by evening. He knows the innkeeper there so we will have a place to sleep for a night.”
You failed to keep the disappointment hidden in your voice, “Did you not like the flower?”
A frown creased his forehead, he moved his cloak a little to the side and there sat the flower safely in the sheath of his short sword. He took it between his fingers.
“I thought-…” you stopped yourself.
He grew curious. “Did you fear I had disposed of it already?”
You had the most guilty expression. “Did you smell it? It has such an intensely sweet scent.”
He could smell them from across the river, but this endearing gesture made him withhold that information this time.
He carefully put the flower in Goliath’s saddle bag. “I have. You were able to detect the scent from across the river? Well done.”
The praise was nice to hear. “It’s still hard to separate all the scents and focus on the ones I wish to focus on.”
“With time, it will grow easier. I promise.” he said. “And to answer your question, yes, I do like the flower.”
He said it with such intonation, as if he just knew that you were waiting to hear his approval of the flower, or at least the gesture of it. You smiled timidly, happy that it had given him some joy during his grieving.
“It’s scent is as sweet as the heart of the one who gave it.” he complimented.
Your eyes slightly widened, did your ears trick you into believing that it was said in a flirtatious manner? A second passed before you regained control over your thoughts.
Gawain called out, “We should get going if we want to reach Crowgrove before the night.”
You stepped away from Lancelot and headed to your horse, unable to shake the feeling that something more than friendship had grown between you. When still living among the paladins, you had once truly believed that your presence around him had made him tempted to sin, he had that look in his eyes even just for the briefest second. Then everything went to shambles and it had been a whirlwind of events since then. His presence was definitely… titillating. But was it worth risking the loss of a friendship? For what? Lust? Curiosity? It was a fragile thing, friendship and trust, so strong yet so easily broken. He was a monk…he was a monk… he was a monk… and you couldn’t forget that. It was a large part of how he became who he was now.
Maybe there was attraction. And maybe you were afraid to expect more, for more was complicated, more could break your heart and it had been broken one too many a times already. To be greedy was to risk it all. Time would tell where this would lead to, all you wished for was that it would not lead you both on separate paths.
~~~♡~~~♡~~~♤~~~♡~~~♡~~~
It was not a moment too soon when you reached the village. The sun had gone down and it felt terribly tempting to shut your eyes by the gentle swaying of the horse’s walk. That tempting feeling was smacked away by Gawain who swatted against your leg to keep you awake, it startled you so much that the small surge of adrenaline kept you awake enough to ride into the village. Percival, who sat with Lancelot on Goliath, had spend a few minutes talking to you to keep you awake. The boy had a way to visually describe how your limbs could look if you fell off of the horse if you fell asleep on it, it was helpful to keep you awake.
Gawain rode closer to Lancelot. “Lancelot, it would be wise to keep your head down and in that hood. I have heard them speak of you here, let us not risk being found.”
He gave a nod. “I’ve been here before. I will remain discreet.”
“Shouldn’t you hide those?” Percival turned a little and pointed right at the markings of the Ash Folk.
“It’s dark now.” Gawain said. “The shadows are our friend and we should leave at dawn to avoid drawing attention.”
“Are you certain it will be safe for him here?” you asked.
“We will keep him safe.” The knight jested, until he saw the serious look on your face. “He will be safe. I promise.”
It had better be true. “Good.”
The knight spoke to Lancelot in a hushed tone. “She is as protective of you, as you are of her.”
Lancelot hid the smile underneath the shadow of his hood. “Ash Folk are rare. We should look after each other.”
Gawain gave a pensive hum and leaded the way to the inn, there weren’t many people still walking around most had gone to bed. The inn was quite large, and beside it was a large stable as well. At Gawain’s request, the horses were brought into the stable.
“Wait here. I’ll go and speak to my friend Samuel, the innkeeper, first.” The knight had said before heading into the inn alone.
A few minutes past before he returned, Gawain stopped beside Percival. “Two rooms, one night and we can have a meal. How do we divide the rooms between us?”
Lancelot was quick to answer. “Percival and her will share a room.”
“Good solution.” Gawain mumbled to him under his breath, sending him a knowing look.
“How so?” you said before putting much thought into it.
Gawain did not hold back on speaking his opinion. “I’ve known Percival for quite some time, Lancelot knows that the boy is safe with me. But he is not sure if he can trust me with you. And neither will he choose to share a room with you alone, it would be bordering on a sin.”
You saw Lancelot grow uncomfortable, especially when the boy looked up at him inquisitively. “The three of us could share a room again. We’ve done so before.”
Gawain pointed out the issue with that. “Somebody would have to sleep on the floor then, the rooms only have two beds each. And I believe we all need our rest.”
“Fine. Percival and I will take the other room for ourselves.” you gave in.
Gawain beckoned for all to follow. “Come. There are not many people in the inn still awake, we can have our meal.”
Lancelot did not seem too happy with what the knight had told you, but you saw no reason for him to be embarrassed. It was thoughtful that he would share a room with someone who was still somewhat of a stranger to you, so you wouldn’t have to.
“Thank you.” you quickly whispered to him as you walked into the inn, and saw Lancelot acknowledge it with a nod.
Gawain wisely chose a table in the corner for all to sit at. The barmaid was at his side almost instantly to ask what he’d like to have, and from the looks of it she was hoping he would choose her. But no, the oblivious knight chose the broth that had been freshly prepared that day. The barmaid turned to leave.
“Could I have some water?” Percival whispered to you, because he didn’t want to let the others find out he was to shy to ask the barmaid himself.
“I’ll ask.” you whispered back, then called out for her, “Ameli-”
Your voice faltered, you dropped your eyes to the table. Amelia… the memory of her dying in your arms in the dark, murdered by those who were send by Aldith. The barmaid had turned to see why someone was calling out the name, Gawain looked at you confused.
Lancelot stepped in, asking Percival, “Was there something you wanted?”
“Water.” the boy admitted after seeing the saddened look in your eyes.
“Some water for the boy.” Lancelot let it be known to Gawain.
The knight called the barmaid, Cecilia, over again and put in his request for water to be brought to the table. She smiled at him and Percival, assuring them she would be right back with some water for all. The moment she returned with the jug of water and tankards, you poured one full for Percival and then for yourself. To wash down that lump that had formed in your throat.
“You alright?” Gawain looked over at you.
You feigned a smile and gave a nod, hoping that was a good enough answer. But alas, the knight was perceptive.
“The eyes never lie, Ash Woman.” the knight said.
You kept the explanation short. “Amelia was the innkeeper that my father’s men killed when they came to capture me in her inn.”
“I am sorry.” He gave a sympathetic look.
“Yeah…” you avoided eye-contact with all and began to eat your broth the second Cecilia placed it on the table.
Gawain fixed his attention on the other two Fey at the table. “Samuel has promised to give me some necessities for the rest of the way to Gramaire.”
“Would he have some ointment for her arm?” Percival suddenly asked.
All looked at the boy, not expecting the considerate question at all. Your spoon had stopped midway to your mouth.
“I will ask.” Gawain said, patting Percival on the shoulder.
You managed to give a genuine small smile to the sweet boy next to you, musing, “What would I do without you?”
Percival looked so happy to be acknowledged in such a way, you took note of it to remind him of his accomplishments more often. You continued to eat your broth and the rest of the table ate mostly in silence. It was palpable that all were tired after traveling all day, and the days had not been easy.
Cecilia brought two bowls with sliced apples to the table, placing one next to Gawain and Lancelot. Gawain put it between Percival and him, while Lancelot put the bowl beside you. You took a slice of apple and took a careful bite, the juice dripped down your mouth a little by biting it and you wiped it away with your finger.
“These are good.” you told Percival and it made the boy taste the apple slices too.
Lancelot had his elbows on the table and you felt his eyes on you, you had nearly finished the slice of apple when he was still looking.
You picked up the bowl with apple slices and offered them to him. “Do you want to taste?”
Taste… his thoughts had wandered too far. He had to reel them in.
He blinked twice rapidly, cleared his throat, his answer came quite delayed. “No, thank you.”
Gawain was watching the interaction with curiosity. Lancelot was not aware of it, but you were. You fixed your eyes on the bowl of apples, trying to ignore the feeling it caused in your chest to have the attention of the heavens in Lancelot’s eyes.
The knight tried not to smile when he took a sip of water, he directed himself to Lancelot. “How did the Abbot come to know of your secret? You were obviously careful to not let it come to light.”
Lancelot tilted his head in your direction, answering in silence. Gawain frowned in confusion.
You narrowed your eyes at him. “What do I have to do with it? I never told the Abbot of what you were.”
Lancelot took a sip of water. “Are you aware that your markings glowed crimson in the forest when you used the Fey Fire to ward me off?”
“I-” you touched your cheek were your mark would be if it was visible.
“And you were sat atop of a horse, where the paladins could see.” he pointed out. “I did tell you once that there were rotten apples among the lot. I believe they told the Abbot.”
You got very quiet. They could have killed him, and it was because they had seen your markings and made the connection.
Gawain shook his head. “Loyalty is a word the paladins do not know of.”
Lancelot noticed your silence, his hand came to rest on your lower arm. “What is it?”
“They could have killed you.” you quietly said. “Because they saw my marks…”
He brushed his hand over your arm, then took a light hold. “You fear I blame you for how the Abbot learned the truth?”
It just didn’t sit well with you, things could have played out very differently. “If you hadn’t left when you did-”
“No.” he shook his head, giving your arm a squeeze. “Everything you did in the forest that day, was justified. If I had not left, if I had not helped Percival, we would not be here like this and my death would have been deserved for what I did.”
Percival was looking at Lancelot’s hand on your arm. You pulled your arm back and put your hands into your lap. Only then did Lancelot’s eyes dart to Gawain very quickly and away again.
Gawain cleared his throat. “Shall I ask for another serving of broth?”
“Yes.” you quickly said.
The knight proceeded to beckon for Cecilia and surprisingly enough charmed her into bringing another serving of broth for all. You were grateful for the distraction it brought.
After the peaceful meal, a modest sack of needed matters was gifted to the knight by the barmaid, Samuel had kept his word. Then Gawain led the way to the rooms that had been offered. They were a decent size, not small, just right. A small table stood against the wall with a chair, some supplies to write and read. Two comfortable looking small beds and a wardrobe to store some clothing. It was enough to accommodate you for the night. Percival followed you into the room after you both wished the others a good night. The boy chose the bed closest to the wall and let himself drop down on it, arms splayed open like a bird in flight. The bed by the window would be yours for the night, you draped your jacket over the foot of it.
“Percival, no shoes in the beds.” you told him.
The boy got out of the bed. “I’m hungry.”
You swiftly turned. “You just ate…”
He shrugged his shoulders meekly. “Sorry…”
“You could ask Gawain?” you suggested.
“Could you ask?” he winced a little.
It was clear he feared being denied. You gave a nod and steered him with you to the room where Gawain and Lancelot were, knocking on their door twice.
Gawain opened the door, you could see that Lancelot was sitting on one of the beds in the room. “Problems?”
“Yes. Big ones.” you jested. “Our young knight is still hungry.”
Gawain sighed a little, but was understanding. “Still growing. And the war has been the hardest on our young ones. Come, Percival. I will ask Samuel for something to eat.”
The knight stepped outside, closing the door behind him and beckoned for Percival to follow. You returned to your room and took place at the table, putting your satchel down on it and taking out your journal. Carefully you dipped the quill in the ink, then began to write down the events that had transpired again. It felt freeing to write it all down, and you felt a bit more comfortable sharing details at the discretion of the pages. After only a few sentences, you heard the door creak open and abruptly turned to see who it was.
Lancelot slowly wandered into the room, noticing the journal on the table right away. He put down a small bowl, with the top covered in a piece of linen, on the bed, “A salve for your arm, it was in the sack. The barmaid must have overheard Percival speak of it.”
“Oh, that is a welcome help.” It would help with the burning sensation in your arm from the cut. “Are you sure you do not need it for yourself?”
He watched you sit on the chair. “I have some as well. And Gawain spoke of visiting the village’s healer before we leave in the morrow, the knight has many friends it seems.”
It had sounded a bit envious, which you understood. “Well, he is a knight. I do not think he was given that title without helping many people.”
He hummed in agreement. “Sharing your thoughts with the journal I see.” He nodded in it’s direction. “Am I mentioned again?”
“Maybe.” You bit your cheek. “Afraid of what I’ll write?”
“Not afraid, no. Just curious.” He came closer, stopping at your side, watching how you closed the journal a little so he would not see. But when he reached over and slowly moved his fingers along the binding of it, you let him open the journal. He stood so close that his lower arm was a little against you.
“It would be so much simpler, to read your thoughts from these pages instead of your eyes.” he said.
“What’s wrong with my eyes?” you bit back a cheeky smile.
“They are fathomless.” his fingers traced over the page he had laid open.
You tapped on a corner of the journal. “What are you searching for in there?”
He was purposely vague. “Written evidence of a truth I seek.”
“A truth?” your brow arched high.
His voice deepened slightly, “You wrote of me before. Have you done so again?”
Right then it clicked why he was so interested in your journal. The last thing he had previously found that you had written about him was from before you had learned about Father Carden’s order for him to gain your trust. This was what he was referring to.
“Not in the same manner.” you kept your eyes on the page.
He was quiet for a few seconds, his fingers were at the corner of the page. Finally he turned it, still not saying a word. The sudden tension was causing you to be on edge, you felt like you should say something but didn’t know what. His fingers grazed over yours, very much on purpose, and you stood up so quickly from the chair that it had knocked into him a little. That chair was the only thing left standing between you and him, a futile barrier that offered no aid. He proved how pointless the chair’s barrier was by pushing it calmly out of the way and under the table. He held the back of the chair for a moment, needing time to think. Your eyes traveled to the door, he caught it happening.
“Am I making you want to run out?” he kept holding on to the chair, as if it kept him grounded.
“No.” Your heartbeat was in your throat.
He stepped away from the chair and took small steps in your direction, his feet did not stop until they reached you. “I think about last night constantly.”
He could not stop thinking of how you had weathered the storm he had been that night. That gentle tone of your voice had been a layer of salve on the wound that his heart had obtained. How you told him you’d rather bleed before seeing him bleed again. No, it had not left his mind since, and neither had that feeling of having your lips against his own. Every time you spoke to him, he had to focus on keeping his eyes from straying to the curve of your mouth. One taste was all it took for him to be willing to forsake the vow he took. Why would he still uphold a vow to a god who would never accept him? Why not make another vow, of a different sort, one he would uphold and live by, one that did not reward him with absolution in heaven but with meaning in life instead?
You feared he was still worried. “I told you, I forgive you. And I mean that.”
“You have shown your gentle heart to me again today.” he got quieter. “I pray you may forgive me once more.”
“I-…” The power to speak was stolen from you.
He had cradled your head in his hands and stolen a kiss so fast that you had no time to react. For just a moment, you were frozen, it was the warmth of him that thawed you. He was gingerly tasting your lips, letting your breaths turn into one. After a few seconds he leaned back, very little, to see your eyes. You caught the front of his jerkin between your fingers and pulled him into you, claiming his mouth with a certain greed you could not hide. You reciprocated fiercely, it had taken him off-guard how eager your response was. When you could sense that it may have been a bit too much for him, you stopped. His gaze washed over you and with an urgency his lips came to yours once more, this time they were unwilling to let them free again. He was practicing, that was obvious, and gods it was a blessing to be the person who he had decided to do so with. Not a spot of your lips was left unattended to by his. It was so… innocent? So careful and precise that you smiled against him. How could it be that his inexperience only made it more intriguing and alluring? If this was practise, he proved a quick learner. The only thing you did was let out a content hum, that was it, and at the sound of it he deepened the kiss. It just felt incredible and the longing for it was evidently mutual, you did not question it, you feared to question it. He brought an arm around your back, holding you so close that you could feel his chest rise and fall.
Once, he had tasted them, and now he could not stop longing for them. He didn’t know what caused his senses to be so overwhelmed more, the feeling of your lips against his, or the sound of your quiet gasps for air that he greedily stole away to hear it again. His body warmed, the sensation as if he felt every drop of blood move through his veins. Now that he knew what it felt like to kiss you, he knew he would loath the days without it.
You fought yourself constantly, fought the urge to hold him so strongly that he might believe you’d never let him go again, fought the desire to let your tongue meet his, fearing to do something that may be a step too far for him still. But he appeared to throw caution to the wind and took all he could have. The intensity of him increased, his hold on you got stronger and demanding, with his hand on the back of your neck he put you at his mercy. The gasp that forced it’s way out of you made him lock his mouth around your bottom lip. Your hand snaked into his hood, fingertips slowly weaving themselves into his hair.
He always wondered what it would be like to kiss, yet being kissed back so fierce was beyond what his imagination could come up with. If this was what damned his soul, then he would face the gates of hell with a smile. But sharing a kiss with his wife was not a sin, is what he told himself. But in that moment he cared little if the gods would approve of it or not.
It was as if the world had stopped to exist and there was only him. But the world had not truly stopped, it continued around you and time went on, that became clear when you suddenly became aware of the Sky Folk scent present in the room again. You broke free from Lancelot, leaving him in confusion that lasted only seconds. Neither of you had heard the door being opened again.
Percival stood there, scrunching his nose in an expression of disgust. He send an accusing look Lancelot’s way. “What are you doing?”
It was ridiculous how slow your brain worked after that, and Lancelot seemed to struggle with his own as well.
“Did he hurt you?” The boy stepped forward, not certain what he had just witnessed.
“No.” you quickly said.
Percival’s eyes narrowed, suddenly he bolted out of the room. And right away both knew where the boy was heading to. You touched Lancelot’s arm, but he already knew what to do and went after the boy right away. As you stood there, not really knowing what to do, your mind processed what had just transpired. Gawain’s voice could be heard not far away, the rest was mumbling that you weren’t able to understand. Carefully you went and peeked around the corner of the doorway, seeing the three of them talk. Gawain shot you an inquiring look and you looked back with a guilty expression. It put the knight’s mind to rest and he was able to diffuse the situation between Lancelot and Percival. The boy had been worried by what he had seen and went to the knight to see if this was an alarming matter or not. You had to understand that Percival had not known Lancelot for so long, and that before this he was the Weeping Monk. The boy simply thought he could have been hurting you. With feet that felt like lead, you approached them.
“Nothing bad happened. All is well.” you reassured them, not brave enough to make true eye-contact with any of them.
Percival was looking Lancelot up and down, the poor Ash Man looked like he was expecting to be reprimanded and so were you.
“Well then. We should return to our rooms before we wake half the inn from their slumber.” Gawain said sternly.
Lancelot touched Percival’s shoulder, trying to stay calm and collected under the boy’s scrutinizing gaze.
“Come, Percival.” you told the boy, and to your relief he followed you back into the room.
The moment the door fell shut behind you and Percival, the knight turned to Lancelot.
“Should I be concerned?” Gawain asked him as they walked to their shared room.
“No.” Lancelot said.
The knight gave a short hum, biting his tongue to not press for more information, for he believed that even the Ash Man seemed rather lost in thought about the matter.
Our Long Lost Bond 🪷
(A Sun Wukong x Reader fanfiction where reader was his childhood friend during their time in subodhi's place)
----------------------~•🌸•~----------------------
Chapter 1: A New Face
The sun slowly rose with beaming light, a sign for the new beginning of your day. You have been prepared your needed equipment before heading out to your new class since previous night, feeling restless and excited for your first day learning in patriarch Subodhi's place.
You followed the map that was given to you, your eyes diligently scanning the right path of your journey. Until then the path leads to an end, a sealed cave with massive door tightly shut beneath it. You were unsure if this cave is the right place of your destination, but you dared yourself to give a knock on its door. Not even a second after, the door swung open and a person peeked out from the door. As if they already recognize you, they smiled and lead you into the cave, where the patriarch done his teachings. "Come inside, young one. The master has been waiting for you," They spoke to you.
You found yourself surrounded with other disciples, some were sparring and training their strength, while the other spend their time studying scriptures and practicing Dao. You met with the patriarch that you will soon call as "Master", introducing yourself and then become one of his diciples. You have stayed there for months, enjoying a simple life among your friends under you master guidance,
Until...
A strange monkey found this place. He entered the place with his clothes looked all shabby and disheveled, leaping around the room begging for Master Subodhi to accept him as his student and teach him. You and your other friends feel disturbed by his immature and disrespectful act towards your master, shouting at him to leave this place and never return. But this monkey is more stubborn than you thought, he kept begging to your master for his teaching that in the end, he finally accepted him as his new student.
Master Subodhi asked for the monkey's name. But to his surprise, the monkey has been wandering around for years nameless in his way. And so, he gave the monkey a new name for him to use, Sun Wukong. Your tongue subconciously repeat the monkey's name under your breath, not even taking your eyes off from the new face in this place. But you still can't believe this monkey will be your new school mate, and the thought of it making you shiver in disgust.
Later after the unexpected event, you and your friends taking a rest under a tree to relax and chat. But your frustration continue to take the toll on you, and you seem cannot get rid of that monkey from your head and couldn't even enjoy chatting with your friends. "Unbelievable! How could master just let him enter and be with us??" You expressed your annoyance to your friends, leaving them in surprise by your sudden outburst. "Calm down, y/n. It's not like the world would start chaos if that monkey join us!" One of them joked. "Still! You all saw how he act in front of master! I don't think he would even listen to him at this point!" You scoffed, your frustration is getting visible.
You were unaware at that moment, the monkey you just talked about accidentally heard what you have said about him when he walked pass by the tree. Instead of being angry, Wukong just laugh in amusement, his loud voice shock you and your friends in place before he revealed himself in front of you, jumping out from the tree shadow. "Such a bold thing to assume about me, human!" He spoke between his laugh, a wide goofy grin linger in his face. You jumped from your spot by his sudden entrance right in front of you, your poor heart felt like it could burst out from your chest. "You foul monkey! Stop bothering us with your antics!!" You shouted at him, flustered and still in shock from his entry. Wukong giggled again, not taking your anger seriously. "Antics? We called that having fun!" His carefree nature were unbearable for you, but somehow... You found amusement in this monkey.
He already made a bad first impression to you, yet his innocent look couldn't make you stay mad at him for too long. You took a deep breath and stand up on your feet while dusting yourself off, then turned to him. "Is that how monkeys having fun? Jumping into someone's face and scare them off?" You replied to him, a hint of mockery in your tone. Wukong's grin getting wider and he clap his hands in amusement, leaping around you. "We do that sometimes, their funny reactions always leave us in laughter!" He giggled.
"Ha-ha, very funny. Say what's your name again? Oh yes, Sun Wukong..." You responded sarcastically, your eyes rolling in slight disturbance. "Since you're here, guess i have to introduce myself now. I'm y/n, and those are my friends." You added, pointing at your friends near the tree. Wukong clap his hands again, eager to make new friends here with you and the others. "Ohohoh! What an interesting turn! Mind if i join with you?" He asked shamelessly to you, after he almost scare you and your friends to death by his surprise. He's a weird monkey, yet entertaining to be kept around. You can't help but let him join your group, chatting and laughing together until the end of the day.
Hey, I just met you... (Alfie Solomons x Tommy Shelby)
Tofie Masterlist
Summary: In middle of the night, inside a queer pub, a new love story is about to start.
Warnings: None. Alfie is pansexual. Tommy is gay. || I never wrote the moment they met, but here it is.
Words: 400.
2009.
Recently moved from Birmingham to London, for Tommy it was a new beginning. He needed that change, actually. He just needed to start again.
The pub that Ada recommended him was full of people listening to the band that was playing there. Some others were drinking and dancing. Others, seemed to have fun with friends or lovers.
Tommy was glad to have a safe space for people like him and he was glad for being born in an era were queer people have, at least there, basic rights.
He went to the counter an asked for a drink. There was a man there. A big bearded man that seemed to be lost in his own thoughts, eating fish and chips. Melancholic air floating around him.
"Bad night?" Tommy asked and the bearded man looked at him. His gaze maybe was rough, but there was sadness in those eyes as Tommy could confirm.
"Broken heart," the stranger said.
"I'm sorry. But if something I learned about that, it's that it pass. Always pass."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Sooner or later. Tommy," he said offering him his hand.
"Alfie," the other said, shaking it.
"It'll pass, Alfie."
There was something about the newcomer that made Alfie smile despite he wasn't in the mood for that. Not mentioning the fact he was a really good-looking man.
"Thanks, Tommy. Are you new here?"
"Yes. I moved here just weeks ago and my sister recommended me this place. She was right as per usual."
"Welcome, then. Maybe you should spend your time here looking for good company, I'm not the best for that now."
"You know, Alfie, sometimes good company means just a good chat."
Alfie grabbed one of his chips and offered it to him "for the good company, then" he said and Tommy, laughing, accepted it.
Both men spent the rest of the night just talking. After that, they exchanged telephone numbers. It was the beginning of a friendship that it was going to take eight years to become something else. A friendship hiding other feelings that everyone could notice except them.
this might be a hot take and i might not be remembering much, but i feel like amity and willow should've been the "we're cordial and get along for the sake of the people we mutually care about" or "friend of a friend" dynamic instead of what the canon gave us.
#the owl house#toh#toh salt#idk#i love lumity but i feel like the show put too much focus on it#resulting in amity not having proper development and leaving a lot of things unfinished or put aside too quickly#and i feel like willow and gus having no apprehension with her made no sense and felt like the show kinda#made it so everyone understood her the way luz did?#i was so confused when amity just barged into willow's house in s2 like WHAT THE FUCK WHO ARE YOU-#i think there might've been a lot of restrictions and having to cut off a lot of things maybe but it's just disappointing#whenever i think about amity and willow#i just never thought of them becoming friends again
